That remark was regards the post that got him suspended - now don't get too hot-headed or youll need a head flap of some sorts ;)

Honestly the logic that went into the mod is just strange which is no doubt why so many have questioned it - especially as hes decided to invalidate his warranty which would have covered him if his PS4 decided to overheat and die. Its just not sound logic to applaud something done for the sake of doing it..

EDIT: And that's even before you consider his PS4 is still orientated horizontally with the hole hes created sitting flush against a surface...

It may of improved his life but it sure hasn't improved the cooling. That fan isn't designed to operate that way, otherwise there would have been an opening put there in the first place. X amount of years gone into console R&D and you think they forgot that modification?

All that fan is now doing is sucking air in from the opening (drawing in less hot air from the console) and then blowing it back out the existing one, thus cooling your room and not the console anymore. Kudos.

Obviously it's his choice, but personally I find this a silly mod as it'll imbalance the air pressure and flow that has been so carefully considered and directed in the first place.

As far as I am aware the reason the 360's and some PS3's had issues was because of the heating causing issues with the lead free solder that they have to use, and Xbox and Sony STILL use but introduced either better cooling or thermal cut off's. The 360s automatically shuts down when the temps get too high to stop the solder causing issues.

I think the fact that both Microsoft and Sony have had hardware issues over their consoles in the past show that no, they don't always know best.

I've added several fans to people's 360's as well as spray painted a few for them, or increased fan voltage from 5v up to 12v, noisier but cooler.

So this guy modded his case and shared it, why not ask if it actually made any differences to the temps instead of all jumping on the band wagon to take the pee?:confused:

are you seriously going to compare sony's consoles with the 360 RROD fiasco?

i went through a billion 360's in the space of a few years, i've had every launch sony console on launch day and only one of them has every died on me and that was after 5 years and 11 months, sony know how to make consoles, they aren't cowboys like MS.

if OP had came out with a mod for the 360 after it's launch, I would have been interested, the PS4 needs zero modding, what it needs is improved firmware which will come with time so we have more features, etc.

The thread would have been liable to get the same attention and responses whatever the electronics equipment in question...

Modding is general a cool thing to do, but throwing a targeted fan into an enclosed device that has a "cooling system" in place seems like it'd do more harm than good.

I'm unaware of any cooling issues with the PS4? I know its early life still, but surely dumping that big fan in the console just ruins the cooling of the system as a whole? You'll have a colder bit where the fan is placed but what about the rest?

the PS4 has zero cooling issues in fact it runs substantially cooler than the ps3:

PlayStation 4's operating temperature is listed as being between five and 35 degrees Celsius, which is cooler than the PS3. While Sony's current console is meant to run between 45 and 55 degrees Celsius, if it peaks at over 60 degrees you could encounter the infamous Yellow Light of Death, which essentially reduces your PS3 to a paperweight.
 
His console and he can do what he wants tbh, even if the end result is probably worse with it, he did it to his that's all that maters,
certainly better than some of the posts moaning about fps and screen res of late,

Now the poor guys suspended. So what if he wanted to open it up and have a tinker it's his ps4!

Here here, i mean jesus it's his money and warranty he's voiding. I mean i couldn't really care for him, but i just don't get why everyone has been digging into this guy so much.

He's happy with his 'mod' and hes taken the time to photoshop up some pics and document what hes done, to each their own, but i mean for those of you to personally attack him i think should be suspended for egging him onto replying the way he did.

Because really, this isn't actually a mod, it's just misguided butchery, and will likely inhibit overall cooling performance.
