You make that sound like an increase in sound is a good thing? Unless you think it's somehow more quiet now?

I know that when my PS4 is stood vertical it makes a lot more noise and gets hotter much quicker than when it's sat horizontally.
Fair play to OP if he has managed to reduce the heat and well done for being brave enough to try.

You tell me, like I said I think he what has done should be commended rather than met with the obligatory scorn that tends to pervade threads such as these nowadays.
Whether it helps cooling significantly or not he has done a very tidy job, likely better than what most of his critics in this thread could have achieved.
If it's getting more airflow the fan won't need to run as fast which will mean less noise, all he has to do is stick some rubber feet on the bottom to lift it up a few millimetres.
I could understand the mod if the console was overheating and freezing/shutting down, and for some reason he was unable to replace it

Which people used to do all the time, without such immediate and sustained criticism. Don't like it, fine. Don't immediately lay in to the person who decided to try something.
Or don't post something on an internet forum if you don't want criticism, most people know how that works.

he has circumvented the airflow of the system.
it was designed to flow through the system, that flow has now been disrupted.
if he had replaced the current fan with a better one or completely modified the system so that it now had a new cooling system then fair play.
what he has done is completely stupid.
if your car engine gets hot do you rely on it's built in cooling system or drilling some holes around the hotspots to get better airflow to them?
he was having no overheating issues, or any issues at all, now he has most likely created airflow issues which will in turn decrease the life of some of the components relying on that airflow.
air won't be coming in the vents and then out the exhaust but in his new hole and then out the exhaust, that sounds like a decrease in cooling to me.

Since you want to keep repeating this, improving the air flow into the engine will result in benefits mostly, which is why there is a massive market for aftermarket air filters etc. So can you stop trying to compare a console to a car for goodness sake.

did he improve the current system? which is what these aftermarket upgrades do or completely replace them.
no he made a hole in the middle of the current airflow system.
Which has nothing to do with a car.

Think we need to mod a fan to this topic to remove all the excess heat it's generating.
