PS4 Game Download Size

Quick question, in the PSN store, it says say 47GB or whatever for NBA 2K14 next to it as a digital purchase.

Now does that mean the download size is 47GB or the install size is 47GB?

Surely games download in smaller compressed install packages, even if it was like 25GB, thats still better at half the size?

Any ideas.
 
Not entirely sure tbh, when I downloaded Assassins Creed: Freedom Cry (Standalone) yesterday it stated 2GB download and once downloaded unpacked at 8.1GB
 
some games only download part of the game then download the rest in the background (doesn't even show up in notification).

e.g. fifa is around 12GB iirc, it downloads around 4GB only then installs.

after that you can only play the "demo teams" as it installs he first 4GB download on first boot up, after it installs the 4GB file you can then only play single player until the other 8GB downloads (doesn't show up in notifications you need to go to game and then info/details, it will then show you how much of the game is still being downloaded, etc).

i re-installed fifa 2-3 times because multiplayer wasn't working even though i had fully downloaded it in notifications and then installed it, etc. it was apparently fully installed, etc.

it's a pretty confusing system, IMO it should show in notifications it's still downloading the game and you have only downloaded a certain part of it.

This,

noticed the same thing with inFamous. I don't mind, but without it being in the notifications, how do you know you can play the "full" game or whether it is still downloading the game. I guess with sports games its easy to tell as they stick you in demo mode or only load a few teams, but with other games it's annoying.

Simple tweaks like this not being in one of the 3 or so updates we have had is annoying!

even with fifa it was impossible for me to tell it was still downloading until I googled the problem I was having, then people told me to go to the main menu and then hit options on the game and then go to info.

in there it told me it was still downloading, which I had no idea of, and without googling it I would have deleted it again and attempted another install.

it's a really stupid way of showing you it's still downloading because had I known it was still downloading I would have opted to stick it in standby rather than turning it off after it had installed.

so chances are if PSN says it's 47GB it is, and that you will download parts of it completely separately and even after it's installed it will continue to download in the background without you even knowing about it (no notification).

I hope they fix this as it caused me many re-installs for no reason.
