I know this will have been answered in the PS4 thread but to save trawling through it which is the best HD to go for when upgrading the original 500gb HD?

Depends on what you want. The Samsung mentioned above is the best for capacity, but other prefer a hybrid drive for slightly better load times. I have an SSD in mine, but I know that I don't have/play too many games on my PS4, so I'm okay with the relatively low capacity. Some games like Bloodborne (which I have, just not gotten around to playing it yet) really benefit from faster hard drives. Make sure you get a Fat formatted USB drive with the update files on it, to install the PS4 software to your new hard drive.

I have a 1TB Seagate SSHD, performance is good and 1TB is plenty of space. The newer ones have a bigger SSD cache (32GB) so I imagine performance is even better with those.

Alarm beep not that i know of, nothing like that.

WELL, I said that I had my fingers crossed that I'd never encounter this problem - but just this evening, my upgraded hard drive made a very loud beep in the middle of playing The Witness. Yikes.

It was alarming to hear it for myself, but it's reassuring to me that people have been hearing strange noises like that for a long time without their drives actually failing.

i get a single high pitched chirp kind of sound sometimes with my seagates, maybe a similar thing? and that happens in my pc too.
