I share with my brother and he shares with me so we only have to pay once for any given game by making each others console our primary and downloading it on our own console.

I take it this is allowed but why is it? Surely this is halving their profit?

I'm aware of accounts being sold on ebay which is not of interest to me but this will more than likely be the main reason Sony would put a stop to this game sharing and ruin it for people who are doing it properly.

Maybe it's just a little bonus for people who buy digitally and a way to discourage piracy. Selling accounts on eBay is definitely against the PSN Terms of Service so you risk your entire console being banned.

Plus there is a caveat - if PSN is down and you can't log in, you're locked out of your own game whilst your brother can carry on playing (and vice versa).

I'd imagine that the sharing terms are supposed to be for family members in the same household only?

It is a great feature and a good reason to buy digital in some instances. On the PS3, I had to buy some games twice so me and my wife could play co-op but now if I buy it digital we can both play from that one purchase.

Of course, I don't have 2 PS4s to take advantage of it now as she was never that into games to start with and is even less now as she's more interested in her career whereas I like my downtime a LOT. lol. (too much probably).

But as with anything good - you'll have some people that end up ruining it for everyone. I'm actually surprised it's lasted this long given how much abuse it surely gets.

I wonder if there's a limit on how often you can designate consoles as your primary one.

I'm pretty sure there isn't. Me and a friend game share and he's deactivated his console plenty of times so my daughter can play on her profile. I'd like to know what percentage of ps4 users game share as I for one would not pay the normal digital price for games if I wwwnt going halves and I'm sure plenty of other people think the same. Maybe this is one reason why the cost of digital games is and has stayed so high?

Why did you do that on the PS3? It had the same digital sharing feature as the PS4 - indeed it use to allow 5 accounts to share a single purchase until that got abused so much Sony reduced it to 2.

IIRC you can only make the change once a month

Because the games we were playing were old and could be picked up for £3 so it was cheaper that way - plus even less games were available digitally back then.
