PS4 Pro - Can I install a SSD without doing a 'backup'?

Hi guys.

i just got my first PS4 Pro - It is used.

I want to install an SSD. Can I do this right now? before I use it ....or do I have to do a 'backup' first?

so I need to download the 'PS4 Re-installation file' and have it ready on a USB stick once I turn on the PS4 with the new SSD installed?
