PS4 Pro - Can I install a SSD without doing a 'backup'?

Hi guys.

i just got my first PS4 Pro - It is used.

I want to install an SSD. Can I do this right now? before I use it ....or do I have to do a 'backup' first?

If your installing an SSD you will need to reinstall all system software etc from a USB and it will format the drive while doing so.

So if you've already done a backup to a spare hard drive it's fine and you can recover after setting up the SSD.

If you haven't done one already then backup to a spare drive which isn't the SSD.

Yes, that will install the system software allowing the new hard drive to work with it.

You'll need the big PUP file - about 1GB in size.
