well i ahve come into some money, was going to buy a new pc and build it myself but im at that stage of live where i need to save it and possibly use it for something like a deposit on a place to live.

when i first got my ps4 i played "the last of us". awesome game looked well better on ps4 than on ps3. i noticed right away that the same ridiculous load time took place. so...

i have been reading up and i think an SSD would give me a great boost. im looking at a 500gb samsung atm, if in a years time the 1tb has come down atleast 30% i may consider that in future but now i am content with the same size storage as stock.

any opinions on this (the SSD upgrade not the not going for a new pc lol).

Really not worth it. I'm on my phone so can't link but it's really not a lot faster. Not like when you go from a mech drive to one in a PC that can utilise it to its full speed.
Look at Eurogamer today for the Bloodborne times. At one point you are 10s faster on load than standard PS4 drive but it's still a long time to wait.
PS4 is not designed to support them so there's no TRIM but I'm not sure how that affects it's life. What I do know is the speed gains are nothing compared to on a PC and I'd strongly advise if you just want more space to go for the Samsung M9T.
You said yourself you need to save this money and buying an SSD for your PS4 is really not a good place to spend it IMO.

Agree with Noxia, the speed gains are pretty small so unless you have money to burn then I'd spend it on something else or save it.

I upgraded my PS4 because the speed increase when I do so in my PC was very noticeable but I've reverted my PS4 back because it only reduced load times by about 10-20% which is just about noticeable in normal usage but not game-changing (excuse the pun).

The reality is the PS4 hardware and software are not optimised for SSD drives so you won't get the performance boost that a PC gets so whilst it won't hurt, you've most likely got better uses for the money.

The gains of an SSD are small and expensive, if you are going to upgrade then get a HDD larger than 500gb as you will soon fill that up. Id recommend a Hybrid SSHD that combines a normal HDD with solid state memory used as a cache, go for 1 - 2tb.

They are a lot cheaper than a SSD plus you will gain a little speed up and lots more space.

There are some speed comparison videos on youtube of SSD vs SSHD vs HDD and the hybrid drive normally comes in 2nd place behind the SSD.

EDIT: I think Samsung released their updated SSHD drives not long ago with upgraded NAND solid state memory that squeezes out a little more speed, they are moderately priced too.
