My wife has asked me what I want for Christmas off Santa this year and there is nothing a really want.

we were in currys the other day and seen some steering wheels on display and she mentioned "do you fancy one of them" and mentioned how I like to play on the driving machines in arcades.

at the time I kinda shrugged it off but the more I think about it, the more I find it appealing.

I have tons of racing games on my PC and since thinking about the steering wheel I was looking at drive club for ps4.

now, I know nothing about steering wheels, the one we were looking at was £170 logitec g29 and £25 for the gear shifter.
for that kinda of money I want £200 worth of awesomeness!.

also I was looking at the over clockers driving table

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/dxracer-ps-1000l-n-racing-simulator-table-black-gc-051-dx.html

does anyone have a set up for say, under £300 they can recommend to a noob buyer?

thanks for any input

GET IT!

The G29 normally goes for around 400 quid I believe.
Its the latest out from Logitech and the only one of theirs that works on PC, PS3 and PS4.

Anything over 100 quid too me is a waste but saving what 200 odd on one can be called a bargain right?

You should, odd, I seen this only earlier today and tried to pull a fast one on the missus to get it for Christmas. Didn't work tho :(

trying to find a stand that will work with me sitting on the couch,

cant seem to find one that would suit me, most of them look like they're built for sitting at a computer desk :(

I built one out of wood. Wasn't amazing, my wood skills leave a lot to be desired but worked for what I needed. Was cheap also. Consider that route.

Could you show me a picture of underneath the wheel, wana see how it mounts.

Would it be playable resting on your lap? (Until i sort a stand out)

No it would be really awkward with it on your lap, you really need something to mount it on. The Wheel Stand Pro is great and another £100 on top of the wheel cost, but I would say it's definitely worth it if you don't want to build a DIY stand.

I was wondering why all the 1 star ratings for the G29.

"Disgusted at logitech (and Sony)
Love Logitech wheels. Have two and have spent almost £300 on them. Disgusted that for the sake of a software patch they have become obselete (if I get a PS4). As a result I may go to pc to avoid Sony or Logitech getting money for old rope.

"Great wheel, disgusting corporate ethics
The rrp for this wheel is disgusting at £299. Luckily I managed to buy one in a black Friday sale from curry's for £180. I sold my old driving force gt for £50. But even having to pay £130 for this infuriates me. The driving force gt was an excellent wheel. I bought and also paid about £150 for it, the only reason I bought it was because gran turismo 6 did not support my old cheap wheel. But I was very happy with the upgrade. As it was the official wheel for gt6 I thought I was sitting pretty and future proof. But lo and behold no ps4 support so ultimately I paid £150 for a wheel to play just one game, which ultimately I never got to spend that much time with any way. The attitude of both Sony and logitech to customers that bought previous wheels is disgusting. At least now I know I can play ps4 racing games but since there's just a switch on the unit to switch it between ps3 and ps4 mode it's clear some cheap way to give old wheels ps4 support must be possible. If I were reviewing the wheel itself as a new user at a price point of sub £150 I'd give it 5stars. But I can get no joy out of this product without feeling like I've basically had someone thieve £130 from my wallet.

"G27 Owner
Same as a lot of other people. Just cannot believe my G27 does not work with the PS4. Also, as others have said, I will not buy another Logitech product, ever again. We all have a choice where and how we spend our hard earned money. Why should we support a company that obviously doesn't give a hoot about their customers.
"

Yes, there are a lot of negative reviews which are based on the perception that Logitech could have made their existing wheels compatible with the PS4 but instead took the decision to not do this and sell a new wheel for the PS4.

Whether this is actually true, or whether you consider this a shady business practice; it's actually pretty rare for console peripherals to 'carry over' and be compatible with the next console. That Logitech wheels did from PS2 to PS3 was actually pretty unique. But the reality is that Sony did take a different approach to USB support on the PS4 and so it doesn't have the broad range of compatibility that PS2/3 had. Taking Fight Sticks as another example they are having to build support for older sticks into the actual games to give backwards compatibility, which I guess would suggest that there is no magic solution to giving old devices general system level of support.

If you look at reviews which are reviewing the actual product rather than the perceived business ethics of Logitech I think you'll find that the G29 is regarded as a decent all-round wheel/pedal package for PS4.

I'd say the Thrustmaster T300 RS - great wheel and plenty of addons if you want to upgrade bits.

As for a stand, a wheelstand pro.

bought it today, had a quick go with GT6 on the ps3 to make sure it works.

its epic, but time to go get wrapped up and sat under the tree for Christmas

on a side note, I hooked it up to my coffee table haha, but the shifter wouldn't hook on so ill have to sort something out after Christmas.
