Just because I could and my PlayStation is a launch model and does get a bit noisy I decided to strip it down completely, rid it off all dust and reapply some MX4.

The difference is night and day. Instead of it sounding like a hair dryer going and on off every few minutes it's nowe whisper quiet.

Job well done. Anyone thinking of doing it, do it.

Just thought I'd share.

Did you clean out any dust with compressed air? i put thermal paste on mine it was quiet for few months, then it reverted back to its pre take off jet engine sound.

Yeah the heatsink fins are so close together they get clogged with dust quite easily, not helped by it being stuck between the fan and the PSU.

Fully stripped it down. Cleaned the fan out, cleaned heatsink out, everything and used MX4 on the processor. There was more dust clogging up the air flow on the heatsink, the actual fan was pretty clean except for dust on the fins.

This is the video I followed which shows you how much I pulled mine to pieces https://youtu.be/KUGt_iyRxNM

Just had 2 full matches on BF4, some Fortnite and now playing Titanfall and is like new quiet.

Unfortunately, I replaced the thermal paste and the thermal pads but it didn't help my daughters gen1 PS4 (which I gave her because it was a bit noisy and I got me a Pro).

However, replacing the delta fan for a nidec fan made it whisper quiet!

I've done this today and it was a pretty easy thing to do just following YouTube. When I put it back together the zero insertion force BR drive cables didn't quite go in properly it would seem (interestingly the PS4 didn't complain about this when I turned it on, it just said no disk inserted). The second to I applied a bit of force and it works fine.

Like the others have said, it is now much quieter - I used my normal MX4 paste like other people. I also cleaned out the heatsink and fan properly too. I think I'll drop in a spare 750GB 7200HDD as I have been running out of space.

Productive day!
