I've got a thread in the AV forum regarding speakers, Amp setups etc....
Getting loads of great advice there, however, as great as the audio geeks are I need a specific question answering by the console geeks please :D

If I plug the PS4 via HDMI into an amp (specifically a Denon AVR X 2200w, if it matters), which then plugs into the TV via HDMI, is there going to be any significant screen lag caused by the amp pass through?

I'm hardly an e-sports competitor, but if I'm going to play online, I don't want to be at a disadvantage!

Cheers fellow game geeks, I'll report back to the audio geeks later!

I've played through an amp for about 7 years on 4 different consoles and I've never noticed any lag at all. Onkyo amp. You'll be fine :)

No issues here via a denon avrX2000

Like above just make sure your AVR does not have any of its on board video processing on, not that it would effect it?, but personally I don't like having all that stuff on in an AVR.

Well if you don't want to be at a disadvantage you should probably forget using an amp or a tv altogether and use a gaming monitor and sit closer to the screen.

decent gaming tv's have around 20-40ms of lag whereas decent gaming monitors are all sub 6ms

it depends how seriously you take online gaming though.

but tbh the lag makes next to no difference these days player skill matters a lot more. i know a guy who has been flawless (9 wins without a loss in trials within destiny) over 150 times and he uses a £300 50" polaroid tv. i can only imagine how horrible the lag would be on such a cheap tv.

so lag isn't as big an issue as you may think it is. it won't effect your gaming much at all unless it's ridiculously slow.

I've got that exact model and I can't say I notice any tbh. I am wondering tho if it introduces anything extra if the ps4 outputs at 1080p and the amp up scales to the same (set like this to upscale sky HD from I to p).

I have a Denon x2200 and have everything plugged into it and never noticed anything on consoles or on PC when I use that either....
