PS4 vs Xbox One: which is the better media player?

Interesting but I'd never make my console decision on which one is better for media, I can quite easily play/stream anything I want through my TV anyway.

Like Suarez, I do not give a toss about media capability. I have a PC for all that and a games console to me is just that, for playing games on.

Boom......

:D

In fairness both are pretty lacklustre compared to the PS3, the problem with Xbox One is it's so US centric they dont seem to even have thought about PAL and our TV standards.

It's a mess which will surely get fixed but it's the reason my PS3 still sits under my TV as my blu ray player of choice.

I think both fall short of expectations but the PS4 does deliver more than the totally disappointing xbox one, lest we forget 3D blu ray/DLNA/MP3 playback. They both have a lot of work needed.

I had no idea the X1 was so poor in this area since this is their big selling point. The PS4 has been okay in this area for me however I do want connectivity to my PC.

I forsee my PS3 outlasting either PS4/XO when they get replaced by the 'next-gen' consoles for media purposes...

ps3ud0

There's no reason why PS4 can't be as good as PS3 with a few firmware updates, I suppose they've just been focussing mostly on the UI/game side of things so far. All companies ever seem to do nowadays is rush things out unfinished and patch them up later.

I suspect both have basic functionality built in for launch with fixes and capability expansion coming over the next year or two for both. It's way too early to judge either consoles media abilities, not least because both have said they will add proper DLNA support etc. It'll be interesting to see if MS manage to do deals with TV providers outside the US to replicate the One Guide and as I mentioned in another thread the deal it did in the US for NFL (dear MS, please add that functionality globally for world cup and F1) :)

Neither are any good, both last gen consoles are better at the moment.

+1 still using my PS3 as media device I was disappointed that I could not store/stream my personal media on the PS4 guess I will have to wait for firmware updates.

In that case it'd also need a urine extraction function, although the lack of decent media functionality takes the **** enough as it is. ;)
