PS4 worth getting?

They're probably using the money to pay for the PSnow service. :D

Download speeds are horrendous tonight. It's taken four hours to download 4GB when it should take me forty minutes.

Are you sure that's not your internet?

Mine speeds are consistently good.

No, I downloaded from Steam shortly thereafter at max throughput. I normally get top speed from PSN too so it was strange.

Strange, I know PSN has been a bit ropey lately. Stating that it's under maintenance.

Just noticed I said "Mine" instead of my lol.

Hey guys
Well im going on holiday in few months and want to get the PS4 cos its cheaper, however I am a bit concerned on the reliability of the console. Has it improved in anyway cos I did have a PS3 tht I loved playing but it had disc read errors and replaced blu ray drive and gt so annoyed I sold it after about 16 months. There are games that are impressing me like Driveclub and 1886 New Order. but dont't know what to do plz help

Thanks
I never had any probs with my PS3 and had it since the day it come out

Are the people that moan about the cost of games under the age of 20 or something? Cartridge games used to cost more than this. And Neo-geo games.... Don't get me started.

Atm there is a slight lack of games, but that will change drastically in the coming months. I use mine as a blu ray player as well so the lack of games doesn't bother me, yet.

But I do still have loads of ps3 games on ps+ to play :-)

To be honest, I think I prefer Microsoft's way by letting you use an external USB HDD. It seems a waste to have a 500GB drive lying about. I'm sure you'd need to keep it around for warranty purposes.

if you do want a ps4 then definately change the HD and get this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-283-SE&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=1894 it is a lot faster than the standard HD and its bigger also and quieter!
if you fancey a white console and white pad then you could wait a few months for those or if you dont mind and want to play the destiny beta on the 17th then get one now :p :p

An SSHD is not really ideal for a console unless you constantly play the same game. A 7200rpm drive would give a better all round speed boost.

hmmm i seem to remember when i bought my ps4 and hd on launch there were reviews and speed tests saying sshd is faster than a normal hd thats why i bought the sshd, it seems to load me in games quicker than people with a say a normal hd

It will be if you keep playing a few games. As it only has 8Gb of solid state storage the more you have installed the worse it will get. Especially if you play an assortment of games. You also need to play the game a few times so it gets cached.

They work well in a PC as it's generally the OS that gets cached.

What is the general story with Solid State drives in a console? Does the OS have the TRIM function necessary for optimal use? Or has that kind of software management gone out of the window akin to the PARK command one had to use in DOS? :p

I'm probably going to buy a PS4 tonight as I can get one for £250 through work & would a good way to complement for the PC (although the PC will still be the main gaming platform)

Only really interested in Last of Us (sold my PS3 before I got a chance to finish it) at the moment although Drive Club looks quite interesting

They're not officially supported, so performance is likely to degrade over time. How noticeable that is remains to be seen or reported really.

As for the SSHDs, they're definitely faster, especially when it comes to installs etc because of the increased cache size.

Nabbed one! cant say no to £270 bundle from tesco with infamous.90days and spiderman movie. 10% and 20% from my in law. Just bought a car recently also :o:p
