Pc gaming for me is becoming a pain in the neck with upgrades, drivers and digital "restriction" management (DRM) unwanted game clients etc etc, and general poor pc development, patches that break games etc (imo). Can i ...go to shop, buy ps4/xb1, buy a ps4/xb1 game, plug everything connect everything, put game in drive and just play game?. Is it as simple as that?, what are the pitfalls of ps4/xb1 if any?. Thank you for any reply.

Xbone has longer install times I think than the PS4, most games require updates before playing as well. All automatic though but nothing is just plug and play these days.

More or less, although it sounds like you might be doing PC gaming wrong. It's really not that hard. As you clearly appear to struggle I suggest getting a console asap as it's about as easy as its gets for a gaming fix. I'm on my PS4 all the time right now over my PC but more because it's my new toy and the GF will play as well.

Neither console has a collection of games worthy of the console's price tags at present & both are lacking key multimedia functions.

The downsides of both consoles are that you will be paying out the nose for convenience. Games are more expensive & you'll be paying about £30-35 a year to play online...

I never said it was hard or that i struggle (been building pc gaming rigs for years) i said i am sick of the crap that comes with pc gaming, so much has changed over the years and pc gaming is not what it once was. Once upon a time not that long ago you could get off your backside take a str oll into town or wherever the game shop is, buy game, install, game and then play, i want to remove as much of the control system as i can, screw steam, origin, uplay and all that crap, i don't want that crap. Is Origin, Uplay, steam etc tied into console somehow?. I'm using gtx 780 2-way sli, even sli has it's issues but it's all the other rubbish that comes with pc gaming i would like to remove, cracks and hacks might be seen as illegal so would rather not go down that route.

Basically, yes it is that simple. Even if a game does have a patch you don't have to download it.

However you may have to install lots of games etc, and "day one" games on xbox have long install times.

Xbox one starts up quicker :p (I know this doesnt really matter :p)

To avoid problems I tend to stick to Steam game as they update automatically (and you don't have to even put in a disk). The main problem I run into with PC games is Crossfire compatibility or lack of it - I hate having to turn off one of my 6970 cards in CC for some poorly written titles I think when I next change GFX cards I will go for the most powerful single card.

I would say go for a PS4 but keep your gaming rig for the best of both worlds. As both consoles have an extremely small library at the moment unless there is a title you desperately want I would hang on as the prices are bound to drop or they will throw in better bundles once the early wave of adopters dies down.

I've given up PC gaming, PC is just a work machine now. The added complexity/hassle wasn't such an issue but for all the power it had it just didn't have the same quality of games consoles have. For example no PC racing game compares to things like Gran Turismo 6 etc.
My biggest gripe with last gen consoles is they didn't have AA which makes a big difference (at least until we are gaming at 4k). From what I have seen of PS4 though, this issue looks like a thing of the past.

I play on both consoles and PC and to be honest both of them are pretty much instant gaming. I haven't had a problem with drivers in years, every time there's a new stable release for my chipset it's a completely painless experience. Maybe I'm just lucky but I haven't had a problem running or patching a game in years. Steam has made everything simple and problem free for me personally.

I did have a go on a xbox360 and put disc in and it was instant play from the disc, pc has many loops to jump through before that happens, all pc games have this annoying DRM restrictions in place, personally i'm just fed up of the way the powers that be want to control you but it looks like the new consoles are no different then?, maybe i should pick up a second hand cheap 360 for instant gaming, thanks for your input people.

Depends on the games and what sort of DRM it utilises. Steam loads up when my computer boots, I click on a game and it starts running. I don't see how this is any different or any more hoops to jump through than putting a disc into a console.

Pretty much this.

Steam is DRM, that's what i mean i don't want to use steam, uplay, origin etc and faffing around with key codes and downloading. The xbox360 is one gaming device i can instantly play media without the need for third party restrictions such as steam. Thanks for your input, i was just curious if the new consoles had any pitfalls with regards to this.

I could understand uplay as it's horrible but steam and origin are perfectly fine.

Steam is one of the best things to happen to PC gaming imo.

TBH you just sound like somebody that doesn't keep up with the times and hates change. Steam is a great service and does not feel like DRM in the slightest. I'm pretty sure an Origin account is needed for Titan fall regardless of format so perhaps it will impact your gaming life further down the line.

Yeah I'm not really sure why you hate steam so much. Its a great service and provides an easy way to get games when you want them. They also support indie games that wouldnt see the light of day otherwise and some of the best games of the last couple of years have been indie titles.

I'd go as far as say that without steam, PC gaming would be in a sorry state of affairs at the moment, the resurgence of PC gaming is largely because of steam.

PC gaming is the easiest it has ever been. I remember my Dad having to faff around with all sorts of nonsense in the DOS days. I'd also say having to change discs every time you want to change game is a lot less convenient that what Steam and Origin offer.

ha, I've just put Assassin Creed Black Flag in my PS3 - not played it in a while and I have a 763mb update to wait on now.
updates are good though.
your internet speed will probably determine how much waiting you have to do!

if you didn't have your console connected to the internet then yeah it'd just work if you bought a game and put it in
