Looking at getting a PS5

Is there much difference between the digital and disc version apart from the obvious disc drive? I take it the components are the same?

Cheers

Yes. I presume you are talking about the original vs original?

Not Original disc vs Slim non-disc.

And the new one is a smaller ugly console, with some added shiny plastic as everyone loves that:p

True it is still ugly and quite big but it looks less ridiculous to my eye and i much prefer it

TBH, with this reduction in size I don't see a point in switching and more shiny scratch magnet surfaces put me off.

If I didn't have the latest rev fatty, I'd consider it over the original but I agree that both are ugly. As you say, most new buyers will most likely go for the Slim.

If they ever make a Pro, that'd probably make me switch depending on price/perf but that one's still up in the air. There's a chance though, despite the forum's armchair experts saying otherwise but they've already been wrong about the Slim so yeah.

Don't think anyone has been wrong about the "Slim" - that one has been a badly kept secret for at least 6 months - although the initial story was for a similar sized console with a detachable optical drive.
Every "Pro" story you read has either an unknown source or "my mate Dave down the pub" - I suspect "Pub Dave" started the rumour that literally all the others are quoting.

I put mine in the HiFi rack with my amp in the shelf above it and honestly from the front it is just a strip of black with a hint of white. If I replace it with a Slim, it would also go into the same space, not like I can put another console side by side to it so personally, make no difference to me.

The PS5 for me is the most ugly looking console I've ever seen. Shame on Sony. I will wait and wait and wait until something gets released by them that doesn't make my eyes bleed. The PS5 pro maybe or more likely the PS6.

It's not the prettiest console they've ever made but it's the games and functionality that ultimately matter so I'm not sure how its looks really factor into the decision.

That said, I'd rather have my current launch PS5 with disc drive than the new one with that large lump on the side, though I do think the new digital one will look quite sleek.

Think I’ve bought two physical releases in 12 months but I’ve also picked up a few second hand though not many - one or two tops. I do like to play the occasional UHD Blu-ray so not sure if I am ready to 100% drop physical media yet but I am getting there.

Problem with digital only is that prices are often higher for the games compared to disc counterparts, no access to used games, and cannot sell on.

I got a disc version, I can’t believe how big it is! Solely got it for gta6 haha!

Glad the specs are all the same, just need a nVME drive for it now! Got added space!

Cheers all

It doesn't look good I agree but unsure about some of the other posters here I don't have it in the middle of a room as centrepiece item, nor do I look at it when I'm playing games.
Can't say aesthetics have ever played, nor will play a part in purchasing a console, christ alive

It is an eyesore tbh. All of them. Also needs a way to attach the stand when horizontal as it slips off much too easily. Hopefully that's sorted with the new ones

Does the fatty wobble in horizontal….im about to buy one

Yes, and it slips out of the stand very easily. Plugging USB in, discs in and out, even on its own slowly. Probably fixed with a bit of blue tack but I wedged mine into the front of the tv stand.

Mine is a launch day one. Maybe it's been improved since.
