My brother in law had his psn account password changed and also the email address. We are trying to reset the password but it’s not gonna work since the email is different. Is there any other way we can retrieve the account? Sony are shut until Monday.

Slightly different situation, but I locked myself out of my account a few years ago by losing access to the email account I use to sign up. I gave them a call and a nice chap sorted it all out for me very quickly.

As said - you'll have to wait until Monday and the contact Sony. They should go through a load of security questions so he can prove he's the real owner etc.
As also said, 2FA is very important, especially as people generally don't take security that seriously.
This hack will not have been at Sony's end of things - so your brother-in-law has either reused passwords, been phished, has something keylogging him......potential list is endless. So ensure once the account is back under his control 2FA is the first thing he does.

Whilst 2 factor should always be enabled when possible it's mad that a company the size of Sony only offer support Mon - Fri.

Xbox have 24/7 support via live chat.

Sonys support is a joke, I've had to send consoles back to both as well and Microsoft was quicker and easier.

Remember when it was back in 2013? Their service was down for months when 2FA didn't exist for them.
