I wonder if anyone can help, I live in the north of Scotland and use Virgin Media broadband. My speed averages at about 4-5mb and I usually have no problems at all with my internet connection.

I have been on Xbox Live for many years with no connection issues either. However recently when on PSN at night, I have been having quite a few problems including been signed out of the network and also not being able to connect at all.

I get no problems during the day but at night it is a pain, I can be playing online perfectly fine and then it will just sign me out and it will take ages to sign back in.

At the same time, I can play online with Xbox Live no with no issues. I have put the PS3 in a DMZ and am pretty good with computers and routers etc, my router is a Netgear by the way running the latest firmware and is a trusty workhorse and I am on a wired connection.

Could it be linked to a certain firmware maybe (2.80), could it be my broadband provider though my internet and Xbox Live connections run great with Virgin.

Does anyone have any solutions or suggestions that may help as it is getting very frustrating.

PSN has been on and offline a bit recently for work possibly due to the 3.0 firmware, first of all its an idea to check the UK playstation site and that will tell you if the network is up. http://blog.eu.playstation.com/ this also gives an indication of network. What NAT does it say you are when you test the network on the PS?

Virgin? OpenDNS is likely to solve your issues. Google it, it's a free service, simply input their DNS server addresses into your PS3 network setup menu and away you go.

Thanks but how does this work, just go to the website and find dns server addresses? Then do I input them into my router or PS3?

Don't bother with your router if everything else is working ok, it's easier to just configure it on the PS3 anyways!

Go into your network settings for the PS3, set it up as normal but when it asks for the DNS server set them as:

208.67.222.222
and
208.67.220.220

Helped a lot for me, also on Virgin and was also getting the same issues as you.

[EDIT] I say helped a lot, what i mean is it completely solved all issues. I can't remember the last time i got connected from the PSN, ignoring the recent maintenance obviously.

I will try this thanks, I currently have my PS3 in a DMZ, will this affect that in anyway? Again thx for the help.
