I was just looking through the Japanese Playstation Network, which was incidentally, updated again, and has more "What's new" than will actually fit in the what's new pane! (Mostly PS1 games)
I just clicked a couple of free ones to see what they are
One which looks like a cat in a kitchen (!) and one called XI.
Anyway, what I wanted to ask was, during my visit to the Japanese store, I noticed they had a shooter section, with some R-Type games in there.
Has anybody tried these?
I'm hoping they'll end up on the UK store, so I can give'em a try.
Just looked again, and I see they're actually Playstation 1 games, but that should be OK. ProjectX on the PS1 was great (though a bit on the tough side!) Other games listed in their shooters section are Raiden, R-Types (1 & 2), R-Type Delta (I'm sure I remember an arcade game of this? Was great if so) and Philosoma.
I was (still am) a big fan of the old vertical and horizontal shooters.
Games like Silpheed on the PS2, and Ikaruga on the gamecube, and of course, the classic arcade games. I am hoping that at some point, they release some kind of Silpheed style game, that is to say, take the 2d scrolling shooter, and use the PS3s graphics to get an amazing looking game out... there are quite a few on the PC.

EDIT: Well, XI (sai) is a trial of a puzzle game, where you walk around trying to line dice up.
