I love my PSP, great little piece of kit and still holds it's own against new devices these days except in one area: the screen, compared to my phone screen the TFT is dull and green lags something terrible. I was wondering if there was a way that I could upgrade the screen to something nice and new comparable to my phone screen?

If not does anyone have any experience how how much better the 3000 screen is vs the 2000?

Apparently even though on paper the 3000 screen is technically "better" that doesn't always translate as a better gaming experience. It looks as if the 3000 screen is better for watching UMD movies and browsing through pictures, but the 2000 screen makes games look better. The 3000 screen in some of the comparison pictures I looked at made the 3000 look a little bit washed out color wise when playing games. I think most of the improvements to the 3000 screen were in the glare department, to allow people to actually use the thing outdoors for anything other than a mirror.

I've got a PSP 2000 and I've used a 3000. To me, it looked worse. It's just different rather than better. I used to have a PSP 1000 and there was always talk of the japanese sharp screens (sharp as in manufacturer) and they were supposedly much better. I never took much notice of this untill I used a Jap PSP and it was much better.

Yea I got a Sharp PSP1000 imported when PSPs first came out due to the reports of the screen being much much better. I can't compare it to 2000+ though as I don't have one around but it is noticeably better than my mates old 1000 and it's anything but dull. Apparently the 3000 contrast is greater than the 2000, check this comparison.

There's also this comparison which shows a screenshot of a Star Wars game. In my opinion the 2000 looks better in this comparison.

I guess the only way you would get a definitive answer is to test both for a period of time and that isn't exactly cost effective. :p

All this talk of PSP's is making me want to get rid of my Go and buy a 3000.

Thanks for the links guys, I guess I'll just have to lump it for now.

How's the screen on the Go?

Going on personal experience I only have the PSP-1000 to compare it to, and it blows that out of the water. No ghosting at all, really crisp picture and excellent quality, movies look good on it also. The best thing was when they reduced the size of the display by half an inch or so, they kept the resolution the same, I've noticed my games are looking much less pixellated than they previously did on my 1000. Still, even though the screen is great I'm a bit annoyed at myself for succumbing to shiny new toy syndrome and picking one up a few days after release at the ridiculous price that they were RRP-ing for at the time. Especially as I have a handful of high capacity Memory Stick Duos and then finding out that the PSP Go only uses Memory Stick Micro. :(

Well you live you learn, personally as a device in it's own right the PSP Go isn't that bad, but when you look at it compared to the 3000 it's mostly unjustifiable, not only that but for current PSP owners it's an absolute abomination, there's no way I'd consider getting one because I'd have to buy games again, buy all new accessories and cables and new memory cards! It really made me lose a lot of faith in Sony.

Are they ever going to release the PSP2?!

Yeah you definitely do live and learn! No doubt it's a decent device but as you say, it doesn't make much sense for someone who's amassed a library of UMD films and games, the starting price for it was pretty steep as well for what it is. A much better deal now considering how Sony are just chucking away games at anyone who will buy it but it looks as if it's been something of a failure. It's nice to use, and it looks stylish, but the candybar style PSP's are more comfortable in my opinion. Not to mention being able to access the second hand market and other more questionable methods of playing PS1 games.

I heard rumors of the PSP2 but I think at the moment Sony are probably concentrating on that stupid magic wand crap. A PSP2 is inevitable in my opinion although this time I think I'll learn my lesson and wait until it comes down in price as at the moment I have a 9 month old £200 dust magnet. :o

I may even opt for the Nintendo 3DS if it ends up being as great as it looks, especially with the massive back catalogue of Nintendo games that will be available for it. Price will be a big point for me though, I'll never shell out more than £150 for a handheld again.
