Ok i've tried this in the console forum , so since its strictly hardware i'm going to give it a bash in here .....

Ok I just got PSP and it hasn't come with a charger now would a 5 v - 2.5A output charger be ok??

I know it uses a 5v charger with a 2amp output but would the extra .5A in my other charger damage the PSP or battery??

I'ev searched high and low on google without an answer be really grateful if anyone could help

thanks loads in advance

I dont know the answer to your question, but a quick google suggests you can pick them up very cheap if you dont wanna risk it.

I know but sort of need it ASAP. What would the worse that could happen??

Surely it must get asked quite a lot ?? Any electrical geeks hanging about :)

I used to have a PSP. Does it charge via the USB lead? i can't remember, i know sony phones do

It will only charge via USB if its a Slim, and this is crummy at best (Has to be completely off and charges extremely slowly)

the amp rating isnt the output, its what its capable of supplying. as long as the voltage is in the right region, ie: 5v, and the amp rating is at least matching the official power supply, then it'll be ok:)

The 2,5A charger will be ok to use, as long as the voltage is the same then there will be no problem. The 2,5A only indicates the maxiumum amperage the charger can safely deliver to the appliance without burning out.

When charging the battery once the required voltage is attained, in this case 5V the charger will not be able to push any more through.

In other words that charger you have will do fine and should not cause any damage at all, unless the voltage supplied from the charger is unstable.

Hope that helps.
