Hi all,

Working away and in a B&B bored out my mind. Dont want to spend £900+ on a good laptop to play games, but would like to play something.

So are PSP's or Nintendo lites any good? or any of these small handheld pc game running devicies worth buying?

Or should i just go and buy a XPS laptop and have done with it!

Well i'd go for the DS. The PSP has much better graphics however gameplay lacks in most games. The DS is great fun and i believe you can have free WiFi access @ OpenZone Spots

It depends what you want, they are both great pieces of equipment. However the PSP may receive an update at E3 thisd year so you are best to wait until then if you want one.

The PSP isn't just about its graphics as mentioned above, it has great upcoming games this year. Playing movies, browsing the web and downloading podcasts straight to it are what makes we want to buy it after the redesign. If you want to use your laptop for playing games and the stuff I mentioned above then a PSP might suit you better.

I have a DS Lite and there is a large catalog of games for it, it's a brilliant machine. The DS is a good buy for £100 but I usually don't spend £25 on new games unless they are really worth it. I don't think there are many games that are worth the full price tag for DS but there is such a wide variety of games for selection.

You can also find games now that were released 2-3 years ago for £10 on the Internet which hold up very well today.

What you could do as a compromise is buy an xbox 360 for 200 quid and get a 20 inch monitor like the Dell 207FPW for under 200 notes and you are laughing.

That way it is still very portable (almost as portable as a lappy), less than half the price, plus quite a large selection of games.

PSP all the way if i was in that situation

infact i bought my psp because of that situation last year

if your gunna be there a while and could keep stuff there though id recomment a console and portable telly though , even if its just a ps2 slim

Yeah I agree, I don't find myself playing the DS at long times. I usually play it 20 to 40 minutes or so and that is what I love about it.

However I think if you want something to keep you busy then a PS2 slimline or PSP would be a better option. An Xbox 360 isn't portable enough and a PS2 is much cheaper with a huge selection of games to play if you haven't had the chance to play most of them. A portable telly is also a much cheaper solution than an HDTV or LCD Monitor.

Good luck playing with that on the train.

EDIT: Re-read original post. Even so, it's a pretty random suggestion.

Ok an xbox 360 isn't portable enough, but get a portable telly over an LCD? wtf

He is in a B&B, a 360 and flat screen will fit into a backpack without too much hassle. It isn't much less portable than a laptop tbh. So yes, it is portable.

Are you serious? A 360 isn't portable and neither is an LCD screen, unless it was an 8 inch one. It would be hard enough fitting the power brick in the bag let alone the console and a screen.

The reason I mentioned a PS2 was if he was considering getting a console to keep it somewhere temporarily and they're cheap.

I can fit my laptop and a weekends worth of clothes in my backpack, and it still isn't too heavy. I doubt anything else would fit with a 360 and tft, and it would be pretty heavy.

Personally, I'd go the laptop route. It's ok to watch movies on a psp if you're on a train or something, but if you're settled in a room, it's much better to have a decent screen. If you get a good enough laptop, you'll be able to play a lot of games anyway.

Dammit you just made me cough beer all over my moniter......sorry but that is the funniest thing I've heard in a long time,I'm laughing so much that I can't stop crying :D

I got an XPS and I must say that I love it. You can game, work and watch DVD/Divx movies on it so it would definatley get my vote for what you need it for.

It's not that ludicrous what he was saying.. think about it - you could quite easily fit a TFT monitor and a 360 into a small travel suitcase which isn't that much bigger than a decent laptop bag. It's not like he's going to need to find alternate transport to carry it or something!!!

the psp actually has a nice library of very playable games at the moment and more are on the way :)

although if you dont have access to a computer and a usb cable you will miss out on some of the psp's features like putting tv shows and dvds onto the memory stick and music.

also if you dont have access to a wireless network then you miss out on killzone : liberation and the fantastic multi player patch plus a whole new chapter.

but you could always play sid miers pirates on the toilet :)

tbh i think the psp is the best handheld out the 2 as the ds games dont really appeal to me :)

Ds lite.

while the psp does have 1 or 2 good games, imo the ds has a lot more must have games.
I agree. The PSP goes for more Action/Shooter games while the DS goes for more family oriented games/retro games which IMO are more fun on a handheld.
