Well recently i've been getting increasingly bored after quitting my wow life, and gaining 250quid in the process (woohoo)

Now i do have more of a life thankfully but for those times when im knackered after the gym and just wanna sit on my ass i wouldnt mind something to play on and even though i have a decent pc and an xbox360, nothing is cutting it atm, i need something new!

So i've been checking these out and i can get either for under 100 easily using a certain auction site but are they actually any good?

Im leaning towards a psp after hearing most of the ds stuff is poo, including pokemon, the only thing i was leaning toward it for, plus the psp seems to have a lot more functionality.

So anyway im guessing most will be toward PSP like myself but even then are they actually worth the money?

It all depends on what games you want really, you get a lot of people saying DS because it has good games, but so has the PSP. PSP is more of a serious style type console. I have a PSP and love it, my sister has a DS but I don't really like the games,I thought the Pokemon games are pretty poo aswel.

PSP has decent games such as Tekken, Burnout, Fifa or PES,GTA, Everybody Golf, etc.

If you like GTA, Gran turismo, Tekken and pro evo etc then get a PSP.
It's what I did.
Plus you can play and PS1 gam on the move :D

what DS games are far better?

The reviews i saw for pokemon were poo. The only good ones i know of would be mario kart and zelda, what else?

Naturally i dislike sony but it seems better at the mo

I've loved my PSP ever since I did something to it which I can't mention on these forums, you should know what I mean though. So much more potential to it than what Sony give.

Mario kart
diddy kong racing
elite beat agents/osu tatakae ouanden
Metroid Prime hunters
Advance Wars
Castlevania
animal crossing
etc...

For portable gaming the DS absolutely spanks the PSP. If you want a home console and have no TV or monitor (?!?) get a PSP :)

Phoenix Wright
etc...

I got a ds lite first and thought it was great...for the first month

then a got bored and bought a psp and that was two months ago and not scratched the surface with it, games are more deep and longer lasting.

here's some decent games i've been on the psp so far
football manager handheld
fifa 2007
gta vice city stories
gta liberty city stories
lumines
ridge racer
locoroco
syphon filter
metal gear solid

the only game with the depth to challenge any of them on the DS was new super mario bros
and them point n click games like phoenix wright i found dull, sent me to sleep.
still got my DS mind, waiting for the day somethin decent comes out, been barren for quite a while now.

I did it the other way round, got a psp the controls, battery life and load times drove me crazy. Plus i like pick up games that you don't feel the need to play non stop but can just pick up and put down when your bord. Bought a DS at christmas and still play it pretty much every day and love it.

Really depends on what type of games you like and the type of person you are. I don't think the PSP and DS are comparable other than they are handheld.

I'm lucky enough to own both and have access to every game on both No homebrew/warez talk please

Let me start by saying i wouldn't get rid of either of them. It's all really down to the type of games you play and if you want to do more than play games i.e. internet, movies and music etc. while both can do these only one really makes it worth while and that's the PSP. (don't even think about the DS browser!)

If you like nintendo type quirky pick up and play games like my GF does and all you want to do is play games then the DS is best. But if you want to do more than play games and the games you like to play are standered console stuff like Racing, Fighting, Shooting and FPS then the PSP is best and because these are my type of games I like, I spend most of my time on PSP.

It also should be pointed out that because of a nice chap called Dark_Alex (google) the PSP as become something rather special with the ability to run PS1 games and they look and play fantasticly on a PSP.

If i was to drop both consoles by accident I would check to see if my PSP still works first!

:)

No-one can tell you which console is better for you. Look at the type of games available on each and make up your mind based on that. Some people prefer the PSP, so will always say to go for it, and others do the same for the DS, so the only way you'll actually pick the right one is by looking yourself.

If it was me, then it'd be the DS because the games are fun - you can just pick it up and start playing. Have played on the PSP but like others have said, the loading times are incredibly frustrating. That's not to say that the PSP is a bad console, it's just not a quick-fix type of handheld, whereas the DS most definitely is (although I should say that it can and has had me engrossed in certain games for long sessions).

At the end of the day, like Vixen says, you're best off looking at the types of games you want to play, and choosing the console that best matches your requirements rather than trying to do it the other way round.

the psp load times are only a problem if you cant decide what you want to play. if you play the same game for a while in short bursts, the sleep mode works great. wake it up and you start where you left off with no load times to worry about.(apart from maybe 2-3 seconds while the psp gets its bearings - game dependant)

I find the games are pretty childish on the ds and if i was 10 years old again it might be the handheld for me. Mario bros was fun 18 years ago, but i dont fancy playing it again now just with slightly better gfx. But as i am now, the psp is for me with the stadistic butchering of humanity gta vice city. Turns heads in the office durring me lunch breaks when the game is swearing away ;)

GTA with it's swearing etc. just for the sake of it seems like the most childish game to me. ;)

I agree with a lot of whats being said here, the ds is fantastic for pic up and play games, I loved mine. My mates got a psp and while it is fun its games are much more in depth so I didnt like it as much.

For me the biggest thing is the ds lite, supurb battery life and the closeable lid means the screen is always safe.

Its all down to what you are looking to do with the machine,

long hours of play - deffinitly the psp. good web browser and you can use it to watch films and music
pic and play for short stints - has to be the ds, doesnt do a lot of what the psp does. Just use it for having fun playing games, dont touch the web browser its awful
