ok ive owned both the psp and the ds lite at various stages and sold them due to lack of use.

i want a portable again, so which do i get?

I like sports games, platformers, car racing

On the ds lite i enjoyed new super mario, mario kart and phoenix wright

on the psp i liked syphon filter, pro evo and virtua tennis

i know zelda is supposed to be excellent on the ds, and theres a new syphon filer on the psp

are there any other big games (must haves) coming for either? is pes 2008 gonna be any kop on the psp?

i own a ps3, are there now proper reasons to own a psp with this in mind

I dont think it matters that you get, if you couldnt get enough use out of them the 1st time i dont think you will the 2nd time.

I think there both have got excellent games on the system and quite varied, I think possibly the PSP is more suited to the adult gamer, not saying the DS doesnt have mature games but i hope you get what i mean. Also having a PSP and a PS3, the PSP is like the ultimate accessory, you can DL PS1 games on your PS3 and play on the PSP, remotely watch media from your PS3 on it, use it to remote access your PS3 ie switch it on to download stuff. Theres also a few other things you can do PS3/PSP related there's a F1 patch coming where you can use the PSP as mirror (lol), play games remotely ( Lair for one), you will even be able to use it as a controller with its on screen showing maps or inventory this demo'ed at TGS this year. The PSP is also getting a GPS addon for a fully featured Sat Nav system, a deal with SKY tv is also in place so that you can pay a fee and watch SKY Sports Sky movies etc. So if its just games you want then i think the DS probably shades it, but PSP with all its extra functionality with the PS3 and others makes it a better choice IMO. Also the PSP version of God of War comes out in the spring, and that looks to be one good reason to get one.

I would agree with msmalls74 here because of all the stuff the PSP can get up to with the PS3, it also does a good job of games you already know and like in a portable form. Plus that way you can wait and see what the new DS revision looks like and maybe pick one up at a later date.

The PSP is basically going to be a miniature version of games you play on your PS3 or PS2... if these are the types of games you want to play, then get the PSP. E.g. GTA series.

The DS Lite has games that you can't play anywhere else, and styles of games that won't work anywhere else. If this appeals to you, but a DS.

Personally, I have a PSP... I'm thinking about a DS Lite for the new Zelda though. :o

Im going to tell you it straight, you need to get neither. There is a 3rd alternative, the Gizmondo. Man its good.

Lovely little interlaced screen, free advertising all over it. Needs a sim card to turn on. Really 'unique' design. Loads of games that are so good you cant even buy them in the shops, they are THAT rare.

Get one. No, get two!

I remember the Gizmondo shop on regent street. That thing sucked :o

GP2X might be worth looking into if you fancy something different though.

Plus it funds the Russian mob. Extra bonus!

(or at least it did)

Are we doing "hardcore gaming" again?

The DS is plenty suited to adult gamers as well - I am an adult, and I game on the DS. I am most certainly not alone. It just depends what kind of games you like. The mature/immature division is not a very good line to try to draw.

This is what I have wanted for ages!!! Whether it was DS and Wii or PS3 and PSP. Do you have any links for the info on this? I would be interested to see what its going to be like.

Obviously you didnt read the whole of the quote, did i say that the DS has no mature themed games? did i say the DS was only full of "kiddy" games? I never said the DS wasnt a hardcore gamers system, some people should read a whole post instead of jumping to conclusions from the first sentence. Or maybe your just jumping to the defence of console that is sometimes tared with the "its only for kids" tag, but i didnt say that at all, im sorry if thats what you thought i ment it was not intended. Youre right mature is probably a poor term but its one a lot of people can understand instantly what is ment by the term, sorry I couldnt think of another word that desrcibes it better.

Theres was a bit of info about while TGS was going on but i cant find a lot of the info etc but I got this from the gamespot live blog from TGS this year,
6:46] There will now be a demonstration of the PSP's Remote Play from the PS3. A high-definition TV--Sony-made, naturally--is wheeled out on stage.

[6:47] Another Sony official takes to the stage to do the demonstration. He is talking up the PSP and the way it connects remotely to the PS3, so gamers can access PS3 functionalities on their PSPs.

[6:49] The exec says that in Japan, wireless is free and easily accessible from many free Wi-Fi points in shops and hotels. So this is a "really cool feature."

[6:50] Kaz Hirai has retaken the stage and is now showing off the way that the PSP can be used as an additional monitor, screen, or a controller for the PS3.

[6:51] There is also a voice-recognition function, and multiplayer games can be accessed by multiple users on multiple PSPs, with others joining as spectators.

[6:52] Hirai continues to talk about the possibilities of Remote Play in the future.

[6:52] Users will be able to play their games on the PS3s, and when they have to leave for work, continue playing them during their commutes on their PSPs.

[6:53] "PSP will make use of these extended functions to expand the world of PlayStation and will be a very important part of the platform's growth," says Hirai.
