PSP USB conection issues.

I have an old 'fat' PSP running on 3.8 firmware which will not connect reliabily with my PC as home but is fine with my work PC.

On connection with the PSP turned on to USB mode it connects and allows me to view but trying to cope any data over results in a 'drive missing' error as the 'removable drive' which was the PSP memory card vanishes. Clicking ok then causes it to come back reconnected but the copy has terminated.

I have also recently replaced my motherboard in my P.C. to a Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4 (I think as typing this from work) and I cam hooking up to the Lian-Li V1000 case front ports.

I have no problems connecting and using the psp with my work machine (Dell).

Any ideas / suggestions.

Just got home and have tried the rear (motherboard rather than case) USB connectors but same issue :(.

As a long shot have a you tried a USB cable with a suppressor on the end? (I know the one I got with slim and lite has a this type of USB cable).

Ive had the same issue for about a year now - tried every forum known to man with no-one able to give me a straight answer. I have this problem with EVERY SINGLE usb reader I attach to my PC :( :( Tried everything - reiinstalled windows / new PSU / have everything disconnected on a fresh install, nothing has reliably worked for any length of time.

The only thing I have found that definitely improves reliability is disabling my wireless adapter then restarting my PC. This is what I do anytime I have to transfer files to my PSP (and only get corruption about 5% of the time).

my guess is its your motherboard not supplying enough juice

the symptoms you describe ae similar to that if you daisy chain too many devices off one usb hub. Ie if i try and plug in my printer and my digital camera to the USB hub in my monitor, stuff randomly stops working properly. Moving one or other of the devices off results in them both working again.

Could be Power supply related also. But i cant recommend anything other than buying new kit. Are you due an upgrade ?

Yes I have recently upgraded to this Gigabyte motherboard and it was working fine before that with my old Asus board and 3500X2.

The only upgrades were CPU / Memory / motherboard.

I have my mouse dongle (wireless) as the only other USB device connected.

I am hoping at this point it may be a driver issue and there may be a driver update on Gigabytes site.

Oh one other thing that may or may not be of relevance....... the machine got infected with malware (popups for virus removers, CPU loading to slow the system) which was a nightmare to get rid of but I believe it has all gone.

If you've upgraded your CPU / motherboard its one of 2 things

Either your motherboard is faulty, or your old PSU is not up the job of supplying your new system.

I suggest you try either buying a new PSU, or borrowing somebody elses for an hour so you can test its definately that, rather than wasting money on a new PSU when you've got a faulty motherboard.

So not likely to be a driver issue then ?. I ask as checking Gigabytes site for new drivers I can find none but they have a driver-search (or some such) utility which you can install and it will chack driver versions. It highlighted the intel USB drivers as being out of date (along with some others). Unfortunetly it then requires a subscription to enable you to actually get the updated drivers :(.

Anyone know the best place to get the Intel ICHXX USB drivers for a X38 board ?

I will see if I can get that sorted and then if not look at replacing the PSU. I think it is either a 450 or 650W model (not at home so not 100% sure) and was bought a year or so ago. It powered the 3500X2 based machine fine with a radeon 1900 but I have now replaced that with the radeon 3870. THis was fine until the upgrade to the Intel C2Q 9450.
