PSP v DS (lite)

Thanks guys more food for thought, perhaps i'm struggling getting my head around how mario kart could be a good racer game compared to an f1 game. Its a cartoon for gawds sake ;)

I will look through that list you gave me tommo to see some screenies, see if I like the loook of them.

But its true I looked and the MM and a lot of PSP's end up there.

Dont let F1 sway your descition apparently its controls are bad, apparently driving on the grass, on the track and on the gravel all feel the same.

If u r unsure, u must be able to pick up a DS for about 60 quid 2nd hand now, give it a test run, you like it sell it on and buy a DS lite, if not sell it on and buy a psp

I've had both..i've now only got a DS Lite.

The PSP can have its fancy graphics...the DS has gameplay like you wouldnt believe. So pleased with mine..have four games already and each are an absolute joy to play.

Only game i enjoyed on the PSP was Lumines..everything else seemed like a rehash of a PS1/PS2 game...got old very fast.

I had my first online game of Mario Kart earlier...amazing! :p

The graphic on the PSP might be better but theres one thing I don't like. It's this dithering effect on the graphics. Sort of a similar thing you get in Gif format images. If you look closely there's little perforations. Maybe I'm just being picky :D

Out of the 2 i play the DS a lot more. Theres just more to play.

New games for the PSP seem to have all but vanished. I dont even know of any upcoming games!

Does anyone actualy buy any of the masses of UMD movies?

Dont forget that in a few months time sony are bringing out a download service where you will be able to play all the ps1 games on the psp.

Do your self a favour mate, DS Lite. I brought a DS when they first come out sold it for the psp big mistake :(. Ended up selling the PSP before xmas and getting another DS with the profits :D. The games on DS's are so much more fun then whatever the PSP has to offer. PSP > DS graphically but DS > PSP over everything else.

PSP doesn't seem to have a killer title like all consoles and handhelds do. I was gonna buy one to especially to play Gran Turismo Mobile, but that game is just drifting further away :(

i have both, i prefer the psp by far. my ds is for sale at the moment :)

i liked the ds when i first got it, but found the whole touch screen a novelty, which soon wore off. the psp is better for me, as i can use it for much more than just playing games.

i'm sure which ever you choose will be fun

i've had 2 PSP's (now sold) and now have two DS's instead, the PSP's was not getting used by my 14,11,8yr old kids or my wife, whilst the DS's are used every single day by them, They and me all prefer the DS, its simply more pickup and play fun than the PSP.

Graphics don't mean better gameplay thats for sure

I've got a DS and it is amazing, there are lots of good games, excellent wi-fi multiplayer, good battery life and it's cheap.
My friend had a PSP, he soon got bored of it as he only played the same games which he could get on the PS2. He sold it and got a DS and he likes it much more as the games are different and original.

If you want it to play films, music etc there is a 4GB Hard disk media player coming out for the DS next month. This is quite expensive though (£120)

Well decided to keep the DS lite pre order and ordered age of empires/mario kart/ new SM bros and a board game compilation for the wife :D

Just gotta wait 4 weeks now.

I have both, and I probably prefer my PSP. The DS has some great games too, and I am in no way going to sell either. But I still will never forget the wow i had the first time i powered up my psp with Ridge Racer.. It is a top machine, looks better and the widescreen is quality. ok so the battery life isn't as good and it doesn't have mario kart.

i was going to sell my ds at one point but now there has been some very decent titles come out so i'll definately keep it. The PSP has only begun though, this yr will see some killer titles.

Coming from the standpoint of owning an N64 and Gamecube, the DS, to me, is the console that's mostly full of re-hashes of games I can easily get on consoles.

Advance Wars: Dual Strike - GBA re-hash
Metroid Prime: Hunters - Gamecube re-hash
Resident Evil: Deadly Silence - PSOne re-hash
Animal Crossing: Wild World - Gamecube re-hash
Tetris DS - Original Game Boy re-hash
Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time - GBA re-hash
Super Mario 64 DS - N64 re-hash
Super Monkey Ball Touch and Roll - Gamecube re-hash
Mario Kart DS - SNES/N64/Gamecube/GBA re-hash
New Super Mario Bros - NES(?) re-hash

I'm far from saying the DS is unoriginal, but it has about the same share of games you can get for consoles as the PSP.

You're in the same boat I was, couldn't decide wether to get a DS or a PSP. In the end I went into town at the weekend and pre-ordered a DSL. Granted the price helped a bit, but the thing that made me go for a DS was the range of games you can get.
