so the other day i was a bit bored and it was late so i thought hey, ill stick my psp on charge and have ago one of five games i have for it. popped in lumines and had a great gaming session for 20mins. what happened to the psp ? granted i havent picked it up for about a year before i just used it. but really whats happened it seems no "golden games" have been released for it. sure theres the usual fifa2008 and lego indiana jones but i want games like Lumines, loco roco and i heard a new gta was going to be made for it. i dont know how much these have been developed but currently the only games i have for it are Lumines 1 and 2, both the GTA games, and loco roco and i think i have medal of honor heroes somewhere. its a great portable console but it hasnt seemed to take off anywhere. just left back in 2006 when i got it.

i have tried a couple games for it, call of duty, battlefront, test drive unlimited etc which were okay but they werent "keepers" like the games ive got, i wouldnt play through them over and over like the games ive got gta/lumines especially.

does anyone else feel this way?

(it does have other benefits though - im running custom firmware and can play my old ps1 games on it which is great (gran turismo/crash bandicoot 2&3 and umd movies which are a bit of a rip off but are great quality! oh and internet/wifi)

I'm the opposite. Just been playing with remote play on my Mum's PSP and found myself looking at cheap 2nd hand games I missed.

The keepers I think are Final Fantasy Tactics, FF7: Crisis Core, Lumines 2, Wipeout HD and God of War.

I thought MPO would be the same but I can't get into it. Patapon is quite good as well but I think it loses its appeal after a while.

I recently sold my DS and I only use my PSP for watching movies or playing the games I mentioned. Lately I've been playing Theme Hospital on it which actually plays really well for a PC > Playstation port, still a classic :)

I'm probably one of the few PSP owners not running custom firmware.

Patapon, God of War and Echochrome are all really good and worth a go and apparently Locoroco 2 is on the way. Personally I tend to steer clear of the console ports and stick to games specifically made for the system. Custom firmware makes it though - emulators and ps1 games ;)

The machines doing surprisingly well in Japan at the moment, and has been top of the sales charts for several weeks. I'm not really sure why all of a sudden it's taken off over there.

It's because of Monster Hunter, the Japanese are going mental over it. Also the release of Crisis Core in Japan last year increased sales dramatically. I think it was ahead of the DS at one point but I think the DS is back in front now.

If you have any interest at all in a pinball game I can highly highly recommend Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection, I don't think you can buy it in the UK yet but it's easy enough to import for under £15 and it's awesome!

Got my PS3 last weekend and have been thinking about a PSP to link up with. Do the custom f/w ones link with the PS3 ok or does the PS3 not like it?

Is there anything particularly cool it can do alongside the PS3?

Agreed.
Mine is dusted off once every year (or how many times I go abroad) and used.

Same here, without custom firmware it would've become a paper weight long ago. To be honest, even *with* the custom firmware it's still just left gathering dust on my desk for long periods of time. However, whenever I commute I tend to be driving myself, and don't do much traveling on planes/trains etc so your own mileage may vary.

I think the PSP will come into its own when its properly developed alongside the PS3, there are talks of games that will allow you to play them on the PS3 then carry on when you leave your house on the PSP all be it at a reduced graphical level, cant remember where I read it, ill have a hunt....

Or used as a pad with rear-view mirror in racing games.

I think that was one of the things that got talked about at PS3 launch then never materialised.
