what power unit will I need to run 2 2900xt cards crossfire we have a 500watt
unit a the moe but there is a lot stuff running from it.
also we are going over to core 2 dual E6600 conroe.
Any idea as to the best but not to Expensive PSU I should go for or will the 500watt psu do the job, it is a good unit cost about £50+
I just can see it running crossfire 2900xt.

cheers

do you have exact model info on the 500w psu you currently have? take a digicam pic of the label and post on here for more info.

No chance a 500w will run it. Your going to need at least a good 600w PSU. The Corsair 620w would be a good choice.

no I dont have it to hand, its my brother in law's PC and its over his house
but I know it was good quality saying that it is 15 months old if that helps.
I was looking at 700watt but is that to much as they cost a bomb.

corsair 520 will also do the trick, although keep and eye out for the new corsair vx?? line up is it? they do a 450w and 550w both which should be up to the task.

but again which 500w psu do you currently have?

Course it will if it's a good one, I've got overclocked cpu, ram, and 2900XT at 850/975, on a 520W Corsair PSU, and its better than your PSU and your CPU is overclocked higher than mine, and you've got a 2900XT too.

Corsair HX520W will be fine for it.

Oh dear, my bad, in that case, will the 640W Corsair even be good enough especially if the system will be heavily overclocked.

Read the thread we are talking about Crossfire 2900's which use around 450w load I doubt even a Corsair 520w will run Crossfire.

Above post edited....

I did read the thread, just did not notice about xfire..

yep 2 2900xt cards crossfire on an Asus board there are 4 hard drivers in all
2 DVD burn 1 is lightscribe as usb powered scanner, skype phone usb,
USB game controlls and lots of shiny light in the case also one hell of a heatsink and fan. plus 2 120mm fans and 3 80mm fans with lights. So there is a lot to power-up now. he is using an ATI 800xt 512 old card but still gives some good quality.

I think he's going to need an industrial generator powered buy uranium and anti-matter.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

think I will go for a 600 or 650 depends on how much money is left in the pot

Thanks all

Ignore the overall rating, not all 600/650 are created equal. The figure to look for is the combined 12v wattage. Looking at those specs you need at minimum 45A at 12v, the HX620 by corsair has 50A and would do will do fine.
