Morning all, I need a new psu to accompany a motherboard replacement for the gf's mother...
It needs to have the 8pin cpu power connector for the new motherboard.

I'm looking at the Antec 380w EarthGreen psu for about £30. Seems good enough with the appropriate pins.

Any recommendations?

whats wrong with antec?

Nothing, everyone seems to immediately recommend Corsair nowadays.

Corsair are good PSUs', but they are not the only quality manufacturer.

On the other hand, if you're in the market for a new power supply, and your needs run towards the thrifty and the efficient rather than the flashy and the powerful, the Earth Watts may be one of the best there is. To our knowledge, the 380W model is the smallest 80 Plus certified power supply on the retail market at the moment.

Just like to clarify that I got nothing against antec(I use a truepower new) I was just giving an alternative choice for similar costs.

P.s how's the weather in clevedon?

Thats fine mate, my post was not aimed directly at you.

Different people have different requirements from PSUs'.

I just tend to see a knee jerk 'Corsair' post to nearly all spec. me a psu threads, when there are plenty of other manufacturers out there who cater for different budgets without skimping on quality.

P.S. Nice and sunny at the moment :D

It's just over the years i have had a couple antec psu's fail on me.
And have found Corsair to be very good.Just a personal choice really.

Well thanks for the info guys - i've order the EarthWatts 380w PSU from Antec :)

For about 33 quid ish it seems to suit the build and the pocket. Nice one :)

And this review seems ok as well

This PSU is far better than most of the so called higher power PSU's at a similar price. Runs virtually silently and very cool unless stretched and has plently of capacity on it's dual 12v rails. My PC has 3 HDD's dual core CPU, 2 optical drives, and an ATI 4770 which it powers easily. 380W is fine for all but extreme machines.

True this. But then, Corsair are very good so it is somewhat deserved.

I particularly miss pc p&c, going to be difficult importing my next one from the states if the current one ever dies.

edit: almost forgot. I've used the 400W corsair in a build that ended up sufficiently quiet that I couldn't tell it was running. It is astonishing for the money.

Its what I was after - exactly! And at an extra £10 for the Corsair it was pushing the budget of the replacement parts for the pc anyhow. It's being used in a basic setup so need need for anything bigger.

I may let you know how it performs when its up and running. :)
