Hi,

I have a Tagan 480w PSU.

I've just upgraded my MB, CPU etc, in the last few days I've started noticing a clunk sound then the fans seem to power down and up. I had something similar with an old PSU that was about to die.

I think I'd better replace the PSU (unless you think the problem is something else). I'm looking to spend £50 to £60 on a replacement from OC.

I'm not sure of the most reliable brands and models at the moment.

I'm running

BFG GeForce 7300 GT OC 256MB DDR2 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £48.99
Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - Retail £103.99
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS4 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £94.99
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) £109.99
Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 3200KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM x2 £103.98
plus a couple of old IDE drives/fans etc.

Can someone suggest a decent replacement PSU?

Cheers

I'm leaving the country in 2 weeks so I can't afford the time to get it replaced. I'm just looking for a good, solid (quiet if possible) and reliable PSU for my setup.

Are there any problems known with those listed above?

How do you get a "superb" PSU?! Either it powers your PC or it doesn't!

Some may power the pc but they may not do a good job.

They could be innefficient, have weak rails or be noisy. A good psu will be the opposite and be efficient, have strong rails and be quiet.

That's how some are classed as superb. Just like my Seasonic.

Recommend a Q-TEC then and if that powers a PC I wonder how confident a user would be.

Wow, just looked at q-tec...they seem really good value for money compared to other PSU's, must be good

Everyone first looks at a PSU and thinks "surely its just £50 down the drain, a PSU is a PSU" but when you start looking at rails, and build quality, efficiency and reliability, you can see it's well worth £50. Ok, so cheapo ram will just give slightly less performance, but a cheapo PSU can give general system errors/restarts, or just take out all your expensive brand new gear. For £50 or whatever, it's well worth it.

I really like the Seasonic S12's; superb stability and ultra silent. Anything by antec, enermax, corsair, ocz or any reputable brand will be fine though.

Im probably jinxing myself, and getting myself ready for OMG Q-tec posts ..

But ive had this qtec for over a year now, its done its job and works fine :)

The only thing ive overclocked is my gfx card, and it runs fine not had a single problem :D

I would like to upgrade, but i just dont have the cash to do so :o

Its like choosing between two chocolate bars, one you get from poundstretcher no-frills and the other you get from a popular supermarket (cadburys, lindor, nestle etc). I know which one I would rather eat ;) both 'do'/are the same thing.

And the one from poundtretcher could contain deadly man eating viruses!!! :p
