Hi there,
After a bit of hassle, I've actually managed to get a refund for my 2.5 year old Antec TrueBlue that went bang. That being said, I'm now looking for a replacement. For the time being this will need to power my sckt939 system (X2 4200 Oced to 2.4/2.6Ghz, X1950Pro, 3 HDD, etc). However, I don't want to be buying another PSU any time soon, and so it will also need the power to support my upgrade planned for the summer. This will be along the lines of:

- Quad core CPU
- Whatever NVIDIAs next high-end card is
- 3 SATA HDD
- 2 Optical Drives
- Various USB gadgetry

I have a couple of questions first up...

Do newer PSUs support all the connectors needed for the older AMD64 boards (4-pin CPU, 20pin ATX etc)...or have the standards changed?

Does anyone know of any great leaps in PSU technology/standards that are expected within the next few months, which would make this PSU obsolete by summer?

I've been looking at the Antec NeoPower range. They look quite nice, and match my case (Antec P160). Do you think 650W will be enough?

Can anyone recommend some other reputable makes and specific models which I should be looking out for? I'd quite like a modular PSU, but it's not a necessity.

Thanks for any help.

The ATX standard is incrementally added to, you could take a look at Formfactors.org to see if anything new has been agreed but I doubt it somehow.

Newer PSUs are backwards compatible with older motherboards but you might end up leaving some of the pins overhanging.

Antec should be fine again if you are happy to go with them. It wouldn't be a PSU thread however without the general recommendation of a Corsair HX 520w or 620w, either would be more than capable.

Ok sounds good. So you think 500+W should be enough for the mentioned system?

The HX series are very good, considering you mentioned you wished to upgrade in the summer, I would recommend the HX620 over the HX520 just to be on the safe side (gpu wise)
