So I've posted a few times on here the past few days, regarding an upgrade of my motherboard, processor and powersupply with the intention of upgrading my graphics card to a Sapphire HD 7970 VAPOR-X GHZ 3072MB in a month or two.

I've just got off of the phone with Overclockers customer service and they reckon that the powersupply I've ordered (This one) won't be powerful enough to keep the 7970 ticking over.

What do you lads recommend? Chap on the blower suggested atleast a 750w powersupply...looking to spend around £70 but I guess I could stretch up to £80 and hang on a bit longer to buy the 7970.

Hit away.

BTW, I got a
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) -
Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

Sorry!

Thought I linked the powersupply that I got.

I got the XFX Pro 550W Core Edition

Considering getting a 7950 though just to be on the safe side, how future proof do you reckon I'd be?
That XFX PSU would do fine:

The 7950 if you overclock it, it should run most games at 50-60fps+ and may be 40+ for the more demanding ones. But bare in mind sometimes (actually frequently :D) games are poorly coded and not using all 4 of your CPU cores fully, so you should overclock your CPU and improve the scaling thus make the most of the 7950 capability.

Thanks man, Really appreciate the help proper dropping bricks about it all here :(

If I went for this 7950 then would I be OK?

Thanks once again.

Don't see why it wouldn't work...but if I was to get a 7950, I would give the Gigabyte Windforce 3X some thought from warranty standard, purely because of if the card breakdown after the 1st year into the 2nd and 3rd year period, for Gigabyte I would only need to rma the card to Gigabyte's UK base in Milton Keynes, whereas for Asus I would have to ship it off to Netherlands. Also from the forum members feedbacks, Asus rma service is not exactly that great.

Simply put, if anything goes wrong you would get better support with Gigabyte. There's no doubt Asus has great range of products, and I myself own quite a few as well...but I just pray that none of them fails and have to rma them...

a 7970 with a stock clocked 3570k plus 4 sticks of ram, 2 120mm fans, 1 HDD and 1 SSD will only use

365W of power. recommended is minimum 415W.

Whoever you spoke to at OCUK is talking out their arse.

2 X 7970's will only use 511W Recommended is minimum 561W.

use that as a guide

Haha, thanks man, I'll cancel the RMA and hang on to my HD 5770 for a few months whilst I put a bit of dosh away for a 7970, I'm guessing the gigabyte 7970 is the one to set my sights on?

Really appreciated it lad, I'd be stuck up brown stream without a paddle if it wasn't for this advice.

I know jack all when it comes to the differences between the two fella, I haven't looked into Nvidia but if I'm going to be hanging on a while for a GPU then I'll do a bit of research...I only found out the other day that I can have either one in my rig.

I don't have a tooting clue what I'm doing.
