Hi

I recently purchased various items to attempt to build my first PC, tomorrow being the big day.

I spent some of tonight unpacking/examining the hardware and thought I'd plug in and turn on my OCZ GameXStream 600w PSU so as I could show the other half the neon light :D. Much to my dismay it did not turn on when plugged staight into the mains. My query is does it also need to be plugged into the motherboard to work or is it knackered already.

Sorry for being a bit clueless.

Cheers
David

And the switch needs to be connected to the mobo Pin Headers for it to work. Otherwise it will not turn on. The PSU switch is to turn it completely off, so no juice is running through it at all.

Warning! Please don't do this!

Even your failed attempt will simply will re-affirm her suspicions that we men are just sad geeks who think that shiny lights on their PCs are cool.

The fairer sex just dont get it.

In normal condition it needs to be connected to mobo and be switched on by the power switch header on the mobo.

It is possible to power the psu on by jumping the appropriate pins on the 24pin ATX connector but NEVER do it without any device connected to the PSU.
