Anyone here with a case which allows the PSU (at the bottom of the case) messed around with it facing up (into the case) or down (under the case)?

I'm wondering if it has any real benefits (in either direction)?

Up
Pros = Yet more air being dragged out of the case.
Cons = None?

Down
Pros - Ambient air being used, instead of what's in the bottom of the case.
Cons - Dust in the PSU, or clogged up dust filters.

Personally I can't see how 'down' can have any real advantages? So why offer it?

I always use them facing as as it acts as an exhaust

Facing up? So yes, it's dragging yet more air out of the case... It must also be maybe just a little quieter too (if the case is next to you)? Facing down the noise from the PSU can bounce straight off your desk, whereas facing up, it's buried away...

Mine faces down...As it's in a v1000, no reason I guess...Although I think if it was facing up it would just be sucking on a sheet of metal, Which is a tad pointless as the psu is in it's own compartement so to speak.

In a standard case, where it isn't in it's own compartment, I would normally have the PSU facing components, so it acts as an exhaust theoretically.

the benefit of it drawing air from the outside of the case is that it will be using colder air to cool it, thus keeping it cooler and more stable and alive for longer etc etc. It also means that since it is cooler, there will be less head radiating off it into your case. If the PSU is in its own compartment you should have it drawing air from outside, if its in with the components have it being used as an exhaust fan (generally, there are exceptions to this).

Just seems 'single compartment' cases now allow the PSU to take air from under the case... This seems to be a bit of a gimmick to me!

and also a good way of sucking up dust through your PSU.

they should angle it on it's side sucking in air from the side of the case so that the dust settled on the floor isn't sucked up and the majority of the air is clean which is being sucked into it.

personally i like the fact it acts as an exhaust for my case sucking out air. It sits above my AF PRO so majority of air is pretty cool anyway

Well, there you're talking about PSU's back at the top of the case again?

Seems to make more sense for the PSU to be at the bottom and the CPU at the top, with a nice dedicated 120mm fan taking air out of the case right next to it. Nice and simple!

A PSU above the CPU is only going to complicate things air flow/temp wise surely... ie: The newer layout (PSU at bottom) does seem to make sense...

if the psu at the bottom is being used as an exhaust (not sucking in air from underneath the case) then i can see where the bennefit is. But thinking about it, wouldn't that then affect the air flow to the GPU fan as the larger PSU fan is pulling air away from it???

Surely will just help pull more air into that area... ie: Keep air moving around the bottom middle of the case...

thinking about it i would sooner have it sucking air from outside the case
that air will be cooler than inside the case and the psu fan will spin slower
with less noise as it will be cooler

don't see the point of pointing it toward the motherboard, most case's
have a fan on the top and rear and as heat rise's it will be sucked outside the case by them

also dust :( I think the psu would be more likely to get dust inside it taking air from inside my case as my gf don't clean inside the case :D
