Ok strange one this. Rebuilding my loop at the w/e end and something went wrong, i.e. the psu went bang, big blue flash and nothing worked.

Naturally I written the psu off and ordered another one, which will arrive thanks to city link sometime in the future:P

Anyway, was thinking last night and though well maybe the pump blew up not the psu?

So I went in the bin pulled the PSU out and plugged it into the pump and lo and behold it started working fine.

Now I wont use the PSU, as there seems to be an odd "melting smell" coming from the PSU (This maye down to the fact that I use a modded fan on it which wasn't plugged in when I retested it however).

But the question is if it blew (I assume one of the fuses went) why the hell does it start up atall?

It's an antec 550w true power by the way. Any thoughts/advice?

Some PSUs (perhaps all) have a poly-fuse which is designed to blow if there is a problem and this is supposed to reset itself over time. The main point is that it doesn't damage anything else when it goes.

Ahh thanks I presume then if the poly fuse breaks it's not really safe to continue use it incase it blows again, as there is no safety net now?
