PSU Blew its load (went pop)

Right firstly the PSU is a Cooler Master Elite Power 500W, it came free with my case which was a Cooler master 430. In hindsight maybe I should have gone for one which wasn't bundled with a case but at the time i thought cooler master to be a fairly decent brand.

Anyway I was alt tabbed out of Civ 5 watching Youtube so nothing to strenuous and suddenly there was a loud pop followed shortly by the computer going dead. Straight away I turned it off any unplugged it and I've not tried to turn it on again but just wondering is there anyway to test the psu without plugging it into my system? and also what are the chances of it blowing any other components.

Also any chance of it still being in warranty? i noticed the standalone Cooler Master Elite Power 500W says a 2 year warranty on the OCUK website however the case + psu bundle I bought last year is no longer around. I guess that could be a question for the OCUK support section really.

Anyway incase this turns into a spec me a new psu the rest of my spec is.

AMD Phenom x4 955be
AMD 5850
Kingston hyper genesis grey 4gb.
1 samsung 750gb hdd.
 
Legend of a quick reply right there. Gave it the paperclip test and nout so definitely dead. I will throw a note into the customer section tomorrow see what they say about a warranty then.

If i can't get anything done on warranty I was thinking maybe something a bit more future proof for a potentially better system in the future. Would corsair be the best option for that?

The Corsair would able to handle a low end system with a low GPU, but for something with a little more have a look at the units below.

The 2 latter PSU will be able to handle multiple GPU'S without issue :)
