psu goes pop(very loud) when the pc is shut down in standby mode after 15-30 mins.
happened on first night of build, replaced with identical psu and has now failed in an identical way on second night.
Any ideas?????????????????

Your either really unlucky with 2 dodgy PSUs or you've got something wrong.

Possibly something on the motherboard is shorting on the case? - try removing it from the case and testing it first.

Avoid generic PSU's like the plague.
I once had a genetic 650 watt psu, or at least it said on the lable it was.
i was at work one day my wife telephones me up to say my pc had exploded, and yup when i rushed home to look at my pc, sure enough, well not entire pc the psu had blown up, taking with it my motherboard, and wificard and sound card.

The wife siad it was ok one minute, then a very loud bang, not to mention the pc had jumped forward 6 foot, it was that loud my niehbours ran around to see if my wife and kids was alright.
lesson to be learnt here.

!) dont ever believe what the lable says on genetic psus
2) cheaper psus dont have circuit protection liek many of the better ones.
3)If you choose a cheaper one, you could be risking your life of your componenets and heaven forbid even the peeps using your computer.
