PSU buzzing when idle

So recently my PSU (Corsair TX750V2) has started making a relatively quiet 'buzzing' sound when the computer is idle or just doing basic web browsing/video watching. The PSU appears to be working fine in regards to performance, no BSODs or anything to make me think it isn't performing optimally.

The sound is louder than the fans at passive, and is getting quite annoying. What is quite peculiar is that if I press against the middle of the PSUs grill (just to the right of where the power cable goes in) the buzzing sound stops immediately. When I load up a game or start a benchmarking program, the buzzing sound stops fairly quickly.

The PSU is quite old, I purchased it new back in March 2012. I would assume that there may also be a build up of dust inside of the device. I have not taken it apart or removed it from the computer to investigate.

What I am wondering is:

- Is this anything to worry about?
- Can I make the buzzing stop?
- Is this worthy of filling out an RMA?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like coil whine. My Seasonic PSU does it too :(

If I take it apart and prod the components, it goes away for a few days. But I've not found a permanent cure yet.

Sorry for the bump here, but I wanted to give an update:

It appears that everytime I turn on PC (usually after turning off the power from the mains the night before) the PSU starts this annoying buzzing sound that starts quiet and gets louder. This lasts for about 10-15 minutes, and then it reverts back to a very quiet buzz/near silent operation.

Do you reckon this is still worthy or an RMA? I have had a look and I don't think that the PSU I bought (CMPSU-750TXV2WW) is being sold by Corsair anymore (in the UK at least), is this a problem?

could it be fan motor on the way out? you said if you press the grill it stops.

It should not be a problem. Your unit is a Seaonic made unit, Corsair would replace it if found faulty, but I think they would provide a newer version which is made by CWT. CWT doesn't have the quality that is associated with Seasonic.

So I have started an RMA for this, just need to get my psu boxed up now. Corsair have advised they will replace it with a RM750x. I guess this should be a good replacement? Going to suck having no pc for 2 weeks though! (got no spare psu unfortunately)
