I currently have a rm650 and want to reduce the amount of stray cables.
Is it possible to make new cables(the ones that come straight-out of the psu) which would allow me to go straight to the motherboard and other items?

Ive seen tutorials for making extension cables but can't find any on doing this.
Does anyone have any guidance on what i would need to do? I don't fancy frying all my kit.

Your PSU is fully modular, so those guides should be sufficient.

Are you telling him to follow a guide for extensions in order to make a full set of custom cables for his PSU?? Errr, that is a BAD idea. They are not the same thing. Just because his PSU is modular doesn't mean anything other than he can indeed replace all the cables, but it is NOT as simple as making extensions. If he plugs an extension directly in to his PSU... well, best case scenario it just doesn't work... worst case, I wouldn't like to guess!

OP, if you want to replace your existing cables with new ones you will need to find the pin-out diagram for your RM650 and wire the cables accordingly. This can be quite a daunting task and will likely involve soldering wires together as you will find some pins on the connectors actually have two wires going into them, and others may cross over each other. This is not something you need to worry about with extensions, which is a far simpler process. Personally, unless you are feeling brave and have some experience, I would just stick with extensions, or look at getting a replacement set pre-made from someone like CableMods. There are other places that will make them for you also, but it isn't cheap.

I was just saying to follow a guide that would allow him re-sleeve the existing cables.

Pop the pins out of one end, separate the ribbon, apply sleeving/heatshrink and pop the pins back in.
Is that a bad idea?

He didn't suggest that idea, and it wasn't even implied. He could do that, but it's still not that easy... can be rather tricky depending on the specifics of how his RM650 cables are wired, more so if there are two going in to one, crossovers etc. You're only giving yourself marginally less work than doing it from scratch. Extensions are still going to be the easiest route, if he has room for them.
