PSU calculators

hey

I have been looking up psu calculators and well they've just confused me more
They are not giving similar results for the same components, I mean hundreds of watts of difference between some calculators.

Can someone confirm or deny whether or not a 650/660w psu can handle a 670 graphics card, a haswell i5 4670k and a couple of fans?

That should be able to handle that fine, i assume you're buying a good brand not some nameless PSU? everyone here will advise on a proper brand, as the cheap ones can take your entire components with them, is it worth saving 10-20 pounds?

The reason they vary is for a few reasons, one is that they may be tied to a manufacturer, so they are obviously going to want you to buy a bigger PSU.

But it is mostly, due to the fact people buy crappy no-brand PSUs which can't deliver full load, so its always better to overspec the power requirements than have someone disappointed.

If it's a decent branded PSU then it should be perfectly fine.

Well yeah but I had one calculator spec that as 820W and another at 243W - which is a massive difference

I'm running a ivybridge i3(less effiecient) and a GTX 760(more or less the same) on a BeQuite 630W PSU no worries. I would probably consider a second 760 at some point without changing the PSU out so you should be fine.

A good 600W PSU can run my GTX 670 Sli rig so not probs.

I would suggest getting at least 500 W, 650/700 W if you think you might go Sli in the future. And of course it should be a decent one with most of it's rated output being available on the +12 V output. Example you'd expect a decent 500 W PSU to output around 480 W on the +12 V.

I run a overclocked 2700k, Gigabyte WF 670 GTX gpu, 16gb ram, custom water and several hard drives and at full load from the mains I was getting 330w - Running Prime and Furmark together.

Some PSU calculators give what minimum Wattage PSU to use rather than actual usage.

+1 a 500w or higher that's a reputable brand should cope fine.

Recently tested my power draw in 3dm11 with the spec in sig, gpu's clocked at +80/+600. 1 SSD, 1x 1TB hdd, 9 fans, optical drive and monitor included. Max draw was 586w, and this was only for a few seconds. Averaged about 550w for the duration of the run.

3dm11 is the record holder for me for drawing power

you will be fine on that PSU as others have said

Prime 95 small fft and furmark extreme burn simultaneously, i7 920 @4.2ghz and gtx 470's at 750mhz. Got to 860w before i stopped them.
