i'm looking for a new power supply to replace my old one which fried itself a couple of weeks ago. i'm not sure whether the old psu took out the rest of my computer when it died, so i want the new one to be able to power a new system if everything is dead.

i'd probably be looking at a 3800 X2 based system with 1gb memory and graphics card in the region of 7600 gs or x1650 pro. plus the two hard disks i have already (assuming not dead), a couple of optical cards and a sound card.

would 500w be ok? could i get away with 450w? are the OcUK branded psu's ok or should i be spending more money?

many thanks in advance

ok, so my current motherboard has a 20 pin power connector, and the one i'm looking at for the new system (abit kn9) has a 24 pin and a 4 pin (cpu) power connector. will the seasonic and ocuk psu's be able to power both boards (only asking about the ocuk one as the seasonic is out of stock)

if the seasonic psu doesn't come back into stock, is the ocuk one ok as an alternative? any other suggestions (~£50)?

many thanks in advance

There are a few options. You can get adapters to take the connector from a 24pin-20pin - some PSUs have a connector where the extra 4pins snap off or you can even leave the 4pins overhanging if necessary.

The OcUK PSUs should be ok but I've not heard all that much about them so I'd personally pick something like the Akasa 460w which is a solid PSU. :)
