Hi all, I've recently noticed that there is a strange noise coming from the inside of my computer case when the PC is switched on. At first it doesn't make a noise at all apart from the fan's but about 20 minutes after it's been on I hear a clicking sound. Upon inspection it seems to be coming form my PSU. I've recently got a Asus 8800 GTX from a 6800GT so Im thinking it has something to do with this. The PSU I have is a 650W Coolmaster.

Also when It starts clicking It seems to get worse and worse to the point that it's making a louder noise than the fans combined in my PC. Do I need to get a new powerfuller PSU?

On a further note, I've also recently overclocked my Q6600 from 2.4GHz to 3.0GHz and had the vcore set as 1.35. Could this have had anything to do with it? I've now set the CPU back to stock speed's but am still getting this strange noise. Any help is appreciated, Thanks.:)

that does sound rather dodgy, i would get a bigger psu as it sounds thats on its way out. I wouldnt risk it blowing and taking out the rest of your gear.

I have a 8800GTX + 3 sata hd + [email protected] on my system running on a 580Watt Tagan
No problems here and a little more could be addded to my system before I would need
a bigger PSU.

Is it a buzzing sound or a clicking sound ?, if its buzzing then its the transformer windings
ringing ( badly wound transformer or too hi a current drain)

If you can try another PSU to ensure the problem is the psu that might help narrow it down , if it is the psu then you might consider rmaing it if it is still under warranty.

Regardless of the size of your psu i would change it aslong as you are 100% sure its coming from the psu.

Hardware will fail regardless of it's size.

sounds like its dieing. sometimes they are just on the way out and further stress can cause it to degrade quicker i guess. Doesnt always mean u need a higher wattage psu, just a newer better one. a Corsair 6xx watt psu would do the job more than comfortably for example/
