I have a small clicking sound coming from my PSU. I know that this kind of thing is common with faulty HDs etc but have pinpointed the source as the PSU.

I know the only way to sort this is to open up the psu which I simply dont have the confidence to do.

My question is has anyone experienced this in the past and could it be possibly harmful to the other components ( in other words is it on its way out and gona take some other parts with it ).

edit. seen a post on the internets that claims sometimes having your machine plugged into an extension lead can cause the psu to make the sound :S

if its under warranty RMA it like he said dont go messing with it
if its not under warranty search and research b4 u go opening it

only advise i can give

Yeh only bought it last week so im still able to return it and get a new one. Think thats what im going to have to do its very annoying.

Do NOT open it! There's nothing you can do in there. And plugging it into an extension lead shouldn't matter, in fact I use a Surgemaster extension lead for safety. Unless you've got 18 things plugged in there and it's horribly overloaded obviously! :p

Return under warranty.

Don't open it

There's some big capacitors in there which could give you a nasty shock even with it unplugged.

yes dont open it you could get a zap of it, you wont die from it but it will smart lol. Also it will void your warranty if you open it up. just RMA it and get a new one
