PSU coil whine at idle?

Upgraded my PSU a month or so back, I'd had it a while but didn't get around to installing. All was well initially but these past couple of weeks I'm getting a really annoying coil whine whilst it's idling, as soon as I put some load either on the CPU or GPU it goes silent, but when I'm just browsing and messing around it's constant.

It's made even more annoying as it's a low noise build so it's clearly audible over an almost silent PC.

Any ideas on a cure or is it RMA time?

Interesting.

I run a plug top power usage meter on the PC and when I get this PSU whine it shows it idling at between 45-50w. I've just disabled C-State and CE1 and now it idles at 70w and the noise has stopped.

Could it be that the PSU didn't like such a low power requirement or is my thinking wrong headed? It's interesting that the slightly higher demand has stopped the noise.

was gonna say disable c1e usually that stops it

you can keep other c states enabled

what motherboard? it will still throttle but no noise with just c1e disabled and balanced power profile in windows power saving

its the motherboards chokes throttling the cpu voltage at idle that causes the noise, when it switches to full cpu speed/voltage = no noise cause the board isn't throttling cpu v

Bumping this as it now happens pretty much all the time regardless of what c-state I have enabled/disabled.

Is the cure really only to swap the PSU? the noise is REALLY annoying.
