Basicaly im in the market for a new PSU with about a 80 pound limit.

ive come down to two options, the Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU, or the Tagan PipeRock TG500-BZ 500w Modular BZ Series PSU.

any help and advice would be great :)

P.S. reason for the new PSU is im not very confident with the Xilent i have atm. i would love to get my E6550 higher then 2.5ghtz but im abit paranoide of my PSU going up in smoke and taking my gear with it :(
P.S 2. I dont plan to upgrade to anything silly like Tri Sli Etc in the future and i also dont plan to be changing anything for a wile (student budget) so kept that in mind :)

Your 600W PSU should run your current setup easily. What's the paranoia about?

If you're looking to upgrade the PSU, why are you looking at ones that have a lower power rating?

Well i know corsair to be rock solid for overclocking and Xilent been a pritty weak brand (from what ive read) it just seems to make sence to protect my invest ment, plus i was tidying up some cables yesterday my my current PSU is only 450w, doh!

Personally I cant rate the corsairs enough. They're silent , powerful on the right lines and come with a 5 year guarantee. You shouldn't go wrong with one

Ah, that explains it then. Yeah, the Corsair ones have had pretty good reviews. I personally use a 1kW CoolerMaster PSU and I've had no problems with it at all, but that's quite a bit higher than the £80 mark you're looking for.

Thanks for the replys guys, sorry for the confusion about my current PSU's power i was always led to belive it was 600w (no markings on the exteria of the Box and it wasent till i flipped it over it realised) so to me the 80 pound investment in a well branded PSU with a good reptuation is well worth it :)

Edit; mabby i should be looking at a Coolermaster Real Power 520w Modular Power Supply to, from Burning's reply

It's not the power rating he's worried about, it's the quality of the unit and whether it will last the distance.

I think the Corsair will be a great option for you :)

hehe thanks ^^, yer the first thing i read when i started looking up overclocking was "GET A GOOD PSU!!!!!!" lol since then ive always been very weary about what i did to my system and ive only just today took the leap and pushed my CPU to 2.5ghtz, hehe 4 hours Prime stable :)

I didn't add them together...

If this PSU has some known QC issues then fair enough. Perhaps a new one would be a good idea.
