PSU dead?

I was sitting watching the Masters tonight with my PC torrenting in the background when the power to all the sockets in my house went out. My dad tried to flick the power back on and it went straight onto the breaker again, indicating a dead short. After a second attempt, the power came back on, but the light on my PSU remained off. I replaced the 3 pin mains cable in my PSU with another cable and flicked the PSU back on, and this immediately tripped the power again. Am I right in thinking that my PSU is dead? How do I go about testing? The PSU is a 1kW Enermax Galaxy.

Only way to test would be remove your psu from the case and plug a single fan in to a molex. link out pins 13 & 14 on the ATX connector and see what happens.

But I would send a email off and ask for a RMA.

Well, after testing I have found out that the fuse in the mains cable blew, so I replaced it with a working one and tried to turn the PSU on again with the green and black wire connected and only my optical drive connected. This took the power exactly as it did last night. Looks like the PSU is dead!:( I wont be able to RMA because this PSU came in a prebuilt system from another company and the warranty ran out a while ago.

I am aware that this PSU is much more than my system needs, so if I am to buy a new one, I will hopefully be able to save a little bit of money by getting a lower wattage PSU than my current one. I was thinking a Corsair Tx650W as it is on a nice deal at the moment.

Could someone just confirm with me that this PSU will be enough for my PC,
Q6700@low3GHz
Nvidia 7900GS (Planning to upgrade to a GTX260 216/GTX275 at some point.)
Creative Soundblaster Audigy
300GB Raptor
500GB WD Storage Drive
1 Optical Drive.

Just a quick snip of info on the Corsair's, mine died a few weeks back and although it was replaced with no probs, i did have to ship it to the Netherlands as its the closest one to the UK (cost me £30). Might be worth having a look around at where other decent psu brands need you to send their product if something does go wrong, i know i will do on my next build.

If I was to purchase the PSU from OcUK, wouldn't they be able to take it back while it is in warranty?

Afaik OcUK are happy to provide tech support for upto a month, after that they recommend using the manufacturers RMA service. In my case it was 1.5yrs after i bought it.
