Typical, my wife was using my pc last night rather than her laptop and now the pc will not switch on.

There is not as much as a peep so I'm guessing its the psu atm until I can check further.

It's an OCZ ModXStream which I got just over 3 years ago from OCUK, is that period of time reasonable for a psu?
Never had one fail before but the pc does get a lot of use.

I replaced a modxstreme not that long ago with a corsair builder series. Had it about 3 years too I think.

My wasn't dead, but it had become very loud and the exhaust was very hot, so i figured it wouldn't be long.

Well I have ordered a psu tester but might get my multimeter out tonight if I get the time.

I think a new psu is on the horizon though (I hope its just that anyway).

Is it a good sign the PSU is on it way out if it gets louder over time?

Not noticed any increase in noise in fact the psu was very quiet (not as quiet as it is now :()

I have a method of testing the 20/24 pin output from the OCZ forum though so will have a go when I get chance.

OK help please

Testing the psu suggested the 24 pin connector was supplying all voltages under load.
Disconnected most components (without gfx) and the pc started.
Connected my 7950 and nothing doing.
Disconnected 7950 and pc starts.

So my questions.

Is it possible that part of the psu only (the pcie outputs) could become faulty?
Is it possible that the gfx card has become faulty?

I do have an old Hyper psu that still works so will try it tomorrow when I get chance but it does not have enough connections for all my drives etc so can't use it long term.

Cheers.

Hard to say without knowing your setup. It's possible the PSU has just degraded over time and can no longer keep up with your power requirements

Tried another psu today and had the same problem.
Disconnected all but the cpu, motherboard and gfx supply and still nothing.
Disconnected the gfx and it worked.
Tried another gfx card (without extra power connectors though) and all worked.

I have RMA'd my gfx card, glad I'm not the only one that works on Saturdays :)

Well I did ask if the card would be repaired as it does not show in stock (in fact I can't see it anywhere now) and was told it will be repaired or replaced with the same model.
If they cannot do that they will ring to discuss an alternative.
