PSU dead?

I've had my current build for 8 years and last night it finally died.

I heard some crackling coming from my PC followed shortly by it turning off, turns out it actually tripped my electrical fuse box for the house and blew the fuse in the power cable (I confirmed this by testing the fuse in another appliance).

Now my PC is totally dead, it sounds to me like the PSU may be fried but I'd like to get some thoughts and opinions!

Current build:

i7 920
HD 4890
6gb DDR3 Ram
500Watt OCZ StealthXtreme PSU

Options are either buy a new PSU or build a new rig... I'm undecided but I wouldn't want to buy a new PSU for that just to get fried because it's something else killing it.

To add to this - A few days before this happened my PC kept cutting out. My screens would go black and the fans would slow down (Not turn off, just slow down), it would stay like this until a hard restarted the machine.

Does this sound like my PSU failing to power things correctly?

In my experience I've never heard of another component being the cause of a psu to blow.
Could it be a dodgey wall socket?
You could try finding a cheap used psu to try out.
But tbh if it were solely my decision. I'd say it was time for a spanking new, up to date rig :D

I'll order a new PSU and give that a blast first, My PC is only used for WoW and LoL both of which it plays fine. I guess if this doesn't work the mobo is dead and I'll need a new rig :P

Well, in that case I would get an idea of what you would get if you had to get a new rig, then choose the psu that you would use in it. Then in the event that your mobo is broken, you can carry your new psu over to the new rig.

So my new PSU is installed and the PC is alive once more, HOWEVER!, I'm still getting the issue were both my monitors go blank and all my fans slow down to idle forcing me to do a hard restart. I've only noticed it doing this whilst playing games, does this possibly sound like a graphics card problem?

So this just started happening out the blue, then your PSU died?

DO you have any onboard graphics you could try?

Update: So I just ran Prime95 to see how that went and my PC started making a clicking sound (Like electricity arcing) which is the exact same sound it made just before my PSU got fried...
I think maybe it's time to put her to rest, doesn't sound good to me

That sounds like a power problem - check your motherboard's capacitors for leakage or bulging.

8 years is a long time for electrolytic capacitors to remain stable without checking.
