Hi guys,

Ive got one of these PSU's,

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-055-AK&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=2227

An my query is do these normally blow cold air out?

I've just brought a Armor A30 case (micro) an the PSU sits above the CPU (90mm gap), from past PSU's ive noticed they blow hot air from the bottom to keep the PSU from over heating.

Im modding the case to fit my closed loop cooler so air flow shouldn't be a problem.

I've had no problems with the PSU but the cold air blowing out has got me stumped.

Any help or input would be great! TIA.

Most modern PSU have very little thermal wastage, also it depends on your system load.

The Corsair PSU (750 AX) only runs the fan when needed.

By Blow cold air out do you mean it is intaking air into case rather than exhausting it/

No its blowing cold air out of the case at the moment,il be putting it in my new case (A30) then it will be blowing inside the case.

My query was it is normal for Psu's to be blowing cold air.

Couldn't tell you the system load exactly but it was while playing Sleeping Dogs that i felt under the case/Psu to see how hot it was blowing, was testing to see how hot it blows out before transferring to my new case on Monday.

But like i pointed out it was blowing cold :\

PSU'S draw's air through the fan and out the rear- were you plug the mains lead in.

so atm its top mounted blowing out of top grill, then when its bottom mounted it will be blowing air in?

i have this PSU and i was positive mine was doing the same even thought the manual stated it should be sucking air in through fan and exhuasting out the back. I'll check mine again tonight to see what its doing. mine is bottom mounted atm.

Sorry if i havent explained clear,

@ Dunn2010

At the moment the PSU is in a HAF 912 PLUS case this one is a bottom PSU.

The PSU is a bottom fan PSU with no fan on the top.

The new case is a ARMOR A30 micro atx case, the PSU tray is right above the CPU.
The mobo when fitted lies flat (horizontal) this is where the PSU sits above it.

So the problem/question i had was is it normal for the PSU to be blowing cold air OUT instead of hot air, because when i fit the PSU in the new case (A30) it will be blowing down on my CPU cooler (intel closed loop).

Cheers RJC thanks for you help :)

Do you think it would be a good idea to make some sort of tunnel to channel the air flow, l've got 2 out take 90mm fans below it.

Or do you think the CPU will be ok?

First SFF build so i want to make sure every thing is fine before i proceed as ive got to mod the inside to fit my rad.

The PSU will be drawing air out of the case, The cpu will discharging the air into the PSU were the PSU will exhaust it out the rear.

:)

Haven't touched the fan, thats been the same as from when the PSU was taken out of the box :)

But i just can't get my head around that it actually blows cold air! this is the first PSU ive noticed to do this.

RJC if the CPU cooler was air wouldn't the fan be drawing in an not blowing out? as you said "The cpu will discharging the air into the PSU"

If that's the case i wouldn't get good temps especially with a micro.

Just pulled the system out an 100% the bottom fan is blowing really cold an the back of the PSU is cold but not as cold as the bottom.

This PSU has got me confused big time.

It depends on what cooler is being used, warm air will rise to the top of the case they usually use the PSU to draw the warm air out, but again this will depend on the load of the system.

As mentioned earlier PSU have got efficient so heat being produce is minimal and you system system is not taxing the PSU one bit.
