so got this system and for various reasons I want to replace existing budget 450W XFX PSU of 4 years, which by the way has been great.

Specs are: H77, 1230v2, 750Ti SC, 32GB RAM, 2 fans, 2 SSDs.

As I already have 750W EVGA G2, I'm naturally looking there first.

So I'm presented with GS 550W and 650W and G2 550W, 650W, 750W.

I read somewhere, the best efficiency is at around 50% load.

would there be any problem if I decide to buy 750W G2 to run that rig?

it's not that much more expensive than 550 and 650W and 10 year warranty is nice to have. Also as it's overkill, the fans will probably never spin and if it will it's 135mm compared to 120mm on other units.

thoughts?

Hi, basically the PSU do provide the full efficiency beginning from 50% load. From 20%-50% load it do deliver about 89% effiziency. From 50%- about 85% load it do deliver 92% of efficiency and above 85% it just goes down about 1% again. As long as you can hit about 50% usage of the PSU it is pretty efficient and you do not waste energy. Also like you mentioned, the fan will kick in later if the ambient temp is not too high as it bearly heats up if it is just running at 50-60% load
