Hi,

I have a Hiper 580W HPU-4M580 SLi Certified ATX2.2 PSU; ya I know :o, but it's NOT the infamous modular version and has been running perfectly for the last two years or so. Will this PSU provide enough juice for a HD 4870 512mb?

Here are the rest of my system specs:

Athlon X2 4400+ (2.5ghz)
Asus A8N-E
2GB DDR400
2x120gb (raid-0) + 250gb + 500gb HDDs
DVD-RW
2x120mm + 92mm fans
X-Fi soundcard

Also I've never had a single problem with my current X1900XT 512mb.

Anyone else with the same PSU and HD4870? Will it run?

Thanks. Your psu is better than mine, but hopefully that extra 80w on the hiper should make up for it, lol.

In any case, I just ordered the powercolour 4870 this morning, only realising just now that the HIS 4870 has dropped price again, down to 164 quid! I would cancel the order, but it's already shipped.

is the 4870 more power hungry than the 2900xt? im asking bacuse i run the infamous MODULAR VERSION for the last 1.5 yrs and im considering getting me one of these 4870's

The 4870 definitely uses less power than the 2900XT.

Hmm, I might get a new psu, soon, but if it's been running fine for the last two years, I don't see why it would blow up all of a sudden. I think the bad reputation surrounding Hiper comes from the modular version, not the non-modular version which I have.
